Odyssea CFS 14i/ CFS 1200

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Got a buddy who has a couple of these been running them for a long time with no issues he recommended me them but I'm not 100% sold on their reliability. If something goes wrong my dad's getting rid of my aquarium(s). Decided to play it safe and use fluval fx5.

opened up, removed most of the inside. some sponges left because the return hose is cut to fit at that height. media possibilites. Also removed the useless 9w uv light, quartz tube, mount and cut the electrical for it, but left the screened housing. cfs700 ordered and will be it's prefilter with keeping those sponges in it. i dont understand is that the cfs14i and cfs700 have the same pump and rated on the website for different flow :( the top of the 14i says 700gph :( not the advertised 1200gph

That's what a few extra feet of head will do to you.

thanks, I was wondering that. Also i will lift it up off the floor also to not lose much travel flow from being to low.

Truly does look "kool" (I always liked clear canister bodies) but I never like the way it was made with the electrical "wires" the way they are, nor from the reviews regarding the top cracking and people actually making wooden "shims" to help keep from over tightening the knobs.

Looks like a good filter to "play" with, but I'm not sure I'd want to DEPEND on it.

I really hope you don't flood anything or get "shocked" based on Aquatrader's reputation for electrical issues with their heaters and light fixtures...

Also, is it really smart to go from one filter to another when these are NOT designed to be used that way? I mean oceanclears, and lifeguard type systems are purpose built pressure filters designed to be used like that , but these cheap chinese filters, I almost guarantee you are not.

You may end up putting more "pressure" within these canisters (with their cheap thin tops) than they can handle, and won't know till it's too late.

Please think twice, be careful. Keep us posted..... and post some FLOW vids!

I have a home iris lowes security system with add ons, water detection sensors I have 3 for my tank once I get it up and running. I plan to not use the cfs700 internal pump. so the main canister pump will do whatever it does. I have a mini closet I'm going to be running my filtration into. I plan to make a tray the size of the floor that will have my filters on and a port going to the basement and plumbed to where my sump pump whole is. I'm going to be making wood top lid supports for all the canisters, buying the correct o-rings (which i think are on here already, but will go to hone depot tomorrow and pickup a set of 10 to make sure) and using my own pvc plumbing, not there cheap crap supplied, adding my own pvc inline valves and unions etc. Clear canisters is perfect in my eyes, can see what is going on inside w/o having to open it. Technically should only open up the cfs700's to clean out the sponges. debating if stuffing a ton of cheap plastic pot scrubbers in the 14i's or trying to design some sort of trays to hold crushed lava rock. Another awesome thing is, i can later on upgrade the pump and put in however strong of a pump it, to me making it priceless.

I also have that I will be reusing, two inline 50 or 25? (forgot been a while) watt odyssea inline uv lights I will plumb in (had never really used but like to have it if needed). I will make a mini overhead sump so I can run whatever I want like carbor for however long I want easily as I had setup in the 240 when I had it up.

I would definitely do the potscrubbies, that's what I'm gonna do with my 2262 and FX5 and FX6 if i ever get the 300gal to use them on. I keep having to push it back however (gotta get the house painted /paying taxes, etc, etc...UGH).
Trying to be responsible SUXX sometimes... Who am I kidding, ALL THE TIME....LOL

Just opened one of the uv lights, they are 36w each. Am i the only one to do a mini overhead sump with canisters?
