idk if 6" is too early to tell....on a fish w/ a purported max size of 32", and confirmed at 28", you'd think sexual maturity would occur later and in larger sizes, do u agree? Jags can be difficult to sex until 8" , but some at earlier ages. How old is it?
it doesn't matter concerning the sex, but I ask you is it Nic or CR?
Its a costa rican.. i bought it 6 months ago at 2" .. its around 6 to 7" now
idk man....i'm just making some far-fetched pitches here, but because of the sexual dimorphism, it would be possible the females mature at 6-7 months and the males can take up to a year or so because they grow twice as big? like is said, idk....i'm just putting 2+2 together....when it comes to fish, there are a lot that take longer than a year to be sexually mature. 1st got interested in Dovii almost 10 years ago, but only been studying them closer since Jan. '16
that's male, too much pattern running into the fins and colour around the gills and mouth, also a female at that size would already be an adult and would display more vertical markings. he's just coming into breeding age, another month or two he will fill out and get the distinctive male bulky body shape
