Spinal fusion

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yuck. I stopped reading. Good luck OP.
I'm often involved in these surgeries, and I would have no problem watching these procedures while eating lunch lol

I'm sure every case is different, and it depends on the surgeon. It's not a gentle procedure, is like carpentry but with bones. I was lucky enough to be able to witness a knee replacement surgery from five feet away, I actually assisted in a small way.

I would say get a 2nd opinion. Cause it sounds like there is compression of the nerves in ur back.

Did the surgeon say you need to have a laminectomy as well? Since ur having leg symptoms.

Yeah had 3 different opinions and all agreed. To be honest if my kids werent so young i would say screw it and just deal with the pain but i hate the fact that im like half the father i used to be. I thinknthe initial surgery was a laminotomy or something. But the surgeon felt that it wouldnt be a long term fix. 3 yrs ago they thought a fusion would be best but because of my job i couldnt do it (they would have essentially let me go).

I really think the hip surgery screwed me up more than it did good.

Right lol?! It's not really that it's overly painful, as much as being frustrated that I can't train properly for a marathon I have coming up.

Nah bro pain is pain dont matter where its coming from. I know what you mean though about mot being able to do things you normally could do

And here I am complaining over tendonitis in my foot....
Foot injuries aren't that bad unless you really messed up. My dad had 6 surgeries to fix a few old broken bones that fused together because he elected to wrestle rather than have to sit out the rest of his senior year. I'm in the same boat now with my elbows, shoulders, and knees from swimming but if I don't swim then I lose most interest from colleges that have been showing interest.

J jaws7777 - I'd take the risk if you think it would be better to your quality of life. But as with any medical procedure there's going to be complications as you've experienced from your hip surgery.

From what I understand given my basic anatomy and physiology class is that the sciatic nerve will sometimes be put under pressure when the L-4 slides over the L-5 hence causing the pain you've been experiencing. However given the fact that the zygapophyseal joints often allow abnormal movement I'd talk with you surgeon and doctor about the possibility of osteoarthritis developing given your past history.
