Honestly as a white guy, i'm having a tough time caring about the death of someone who once said "my enemy is the white people, not the Vietcong"

at the time he had good reason to say so. I am not going to hold that against him, true legend. RIP.

Although I certainly am not a fan of his politics or beliefs he was a legend of our time who inspired many. I really have mixed emotions on this. On one hand he deserves respect for his great accomplishments but on the other hand I am really turned off by some of the things he has said and his dodging the draft when so many of our men at that time gave their lives in service. May he rest in peace nonetheless and I will try to remember the good things in his life. I think I read that he negotiated a prisoner of war release later in his life.

Certainly isn't as pure as many would believe, I've read some pretty colourful views of his; and his associations at the time. As mentioned before, it's a mixed bag, from the boxing side I have nothing but respect

I don't believe that Ali was a hater of white people but given the rather turbulent racial times and part of the country that Ali came up in it's not too hard to blame him for making that Viet Cong statement....He also said,"no Vietnamese has ever called me a ******" which pretty much suggests that he's had his troubles with certain people to make him feel that way.Back then in those times an opportunistic and militant group such as The Nation of Islam was very attractive to some people....nowadays the organization has very little credibility as an Islamic group and is seen by many as a joke.

I agree. He bragged and made more outrageous statements than Trump. He has 4 wives and could have more mistresses than Trump if not because of his disease. Idolizing him is endorsing his life style and trash bragging talk.
