Hey guys, I finally sold off my Peacock Bass and the tank is looking a bit empty. I've been considering either Datnoids or Jardini for a while now. I have concerns with both fish though. Datnoids grow quite slow, so I'm worried the bichirs might snack on them. Jardini have a bad rap with being killers. I've read that many of you have had success keeping Jardini with Bichirs so that gives me some hope. I would just like for you guys to give me your opinion on which would be the better tankmate. If I get Datnoids, I'd probably want a group of them. The Jardini would of course be single. I'm leaning more towards the Jardini at the moment, but if you guys feel its too risky please let me know. Tank size is 210 (7x2x2).

haven't kept either but other members have stated its hit or miss with the jars.

Owens Owens currently has one but others have advised against it. I chose the safe route and wont be adding a jar

I am growing out my second Jar.

Neither have had problems with Bichirs, although my second one doesn't accept free swimming fish. He tore up 2 datnoids 3 times his weight and thats saying something because datnoids can be NASTY.

Hit or miss, but like I said, in my experience Bichirs seem to do well for me. I would always have a backup plan at the ready.

Wow, okay I guess I can always try it and if it doesn't work out I can sell it. The only time I can see that the Jardini would attack them would be when they go up for air right? I've yet to hear about a Jardini actually killing a Bichir. What size Datnoids would you say I'd need to get if most of my Bichirs are around 12" in length?

I read that Dat swims fast, bichirs cant even catch them, but at night when lights are off, im not to sure.

I have the same problem, i need a top swimmers that wont bother my polys, and big enought that my polys wont bother them.

Jardini has a potential to be a ticking time bomb. It's risky but probably would work in a populated community tank to potentially reduce aggression. Sub jar for an odoe pike, lol.

As for datnoids. If a poly reaches 15" plus. I would say having a 3.5" datnoid is a risk. Lost a 3" indo dat b4. Personally, if I were to get more dats. 4" head to tail would be the minimum, but they can probably take out a little bit bigger dat.

I meant an immediate backup plan, like another tank. Sales aren't reliable.

I wouldnt think Dat size matters much as ling as they couldnt eat each other.
