Spinal fusion

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
agreed. once its messed with, maintenance needs to happen every so many years, I have to get bone shaved off my collar bone and clavicle in the next 5 years or so to remove the dead/deceased bone and arthritis.

my collar bone in the shoulder is not attached to the scapula. sports injury playen base ball with my oldest son.
What was the diagnosis?

My uncle had the neck done and he's doing much better and says he should have had it done long ago, but I have never known anyone who had lower or middle back surgery that turned out well or didn't need follow-up surgery again and even again afterwards. They all seem to feel good for a few years, then it gets bad again and it's even worse than before and there's only ONE thing they can do now - MORE surgery

Yeah thats my fear is having to constantly go under the knife. A couple of co-workers had neck fsions and they are doing great. We think its because the neck isnt really weight bearing like the lumbar.

Frank Castle Frank Castle , grade 3+ shoulder separation, tried to repair it with bone sutures and dead guy tendons but it did not work,

Thx guys good food for thought. My career is pretty much over, at best hanging by a thread. Really just want to be more active with my kids they deserve better.

petspoiler petspoiler didnt you get a fusion ?
yes I had my L5 and S1 fused. the DR sawed a bone graft from my hip and screwed that onto the 2 vertebrae. with titanium rods inside of the space there. My DR worked on soldiers who were blown up over in Iraq. I say, if you get anything done, get a neurosurgeon who really knows how to repair people. Mine said he could've done a more conservative surgery, but figured I would just come back in with a "FAIL" and need another surgery. So he preferred to do a thorough and permanent job right from the get-go. It worked. the only complaint I have is that I waited too long. I have some nerve damage because of leaving the nerve impinged for too long. I guess the question is "How long is too long?" only your nerves know for sure ;-)

Keep us informed about your progress bro

How is the rest of your family doing?

Thanks for asking man. Actually saw the back surgeon yesterday and the hip guy the day before. I have no faith in either anymore.... not their fault im just frustrated. Im gonna try and tough this out and see how much it affects the kids and wife before i make a decision.

Family is doing good hows yours

My wife had a total knee replacement one month ago. Rehab has been rough. I am fortunate that before becoming a teacher I was a physical therapy aide and now that I am I was able to take the time off to help her.

Thanks for asking

I'm not trying to worry you, but putting the back issue off could very likely cause irreversible nerve damages.
