125G > 240G South American Cichlid Tank (Severum / Geos)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'm not sure - I don't have pleco caves - she uses a cave I made with rocks. If I didn't have that I think she might. It's hard to say. She is always in it in different angles so I'm not sure (vs. the long style of the pleco cave.) She is definitely more cave-oriented than my BN, though, who likes to hang in/on the wood.

I am just so in love with the sevs! Why must they eat plants?!?

I'm giving up on the plans for any plants for the sake of having this tank haha. They are quite the spectacular fish!

Caught the Snowball out of his hiding spot. I am 100% certain he let me take the pictures because he was trying to play dead. Immediately after I finished the pictures and moved away he darted into the log. Regardless, glad to have gotten some clear shots. This is the jetblack with pure white spots that I was talking about! Pretty astounding. He's about 2 inches in size right now.

Picked up 3x Denison barb today! Rounding out my group for a grand total of 9x. Hope to grow all of these together as my dither/schooling/activity fish for the tank :)

A quick update. The Red Tigers are still in QT. One is outgrowing the other three by a lot. I don't think the other three are sick... no signs of ich, no stringy white poop... The big one eats everything, but the smaller three only go for bloodworms. Treating right now with a planned couple weeks of paraguard. Also have Metroplex and Kanaplex available depending on how they look in a couple of weeks.

The 2x Rotkeils are in my main tank and doing amazingly well. They eat EVERYTHING, including the veggies/fruits that are placed in for the plecos. They've also started to hunt down the amano shrimp that I was too lazy to remove. RIP Amanos... you were very expensive treats. The Rotkeils have thickened up quite a bit in just the past month and some coloring has started to come in. Including a couple of pics...

Sold the baby royal a week ago because I decided against having massive plecos. He's gonna be replaced by a Sabaji para pleco. The first sabaji I ordered actually came last week but was DOA =/ Second one is coming next week... fingers crossed for a healthy live arrival.

As always, thanks for following along.

A few more pics...

I really like the pleco feeder because it keeps me from having to reach into the tank, which results in more frequent feeding of veggies / fruits. However, it's quite expensive for such a simple contraption... I may ultimately get one more so that the plecos can all eat at the same time instead of taking turns (the L177 Golden Nugget is pretty bossy).

Have you been happy with that? I have seen some people post about it being just sand that was cheaply painted?

Really? Haha if I had read that beforehand I definitely would not have purchased it. However, given that I have had it for quite a long time now, I can say that it's been excellent.

If it was painted I'd assume that it would lose black color... but it certainly has not lost any color. It provides great contrast. It's very fine, but also heavy enough that it doesn't get sucked up via my python during vacuuming sessions.

Can't say I have any problems with it :)
