125G > 240G South American Cichlid Tank (Severum / Geos)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Pictures of the LDA033 Large White Spot Snowball. These pics are from when I originally got the guy about a week ago. Color was a bit faded. He's now eating and getting adjusted to the tank and is SNOW WHITE on JET BLACK. Absolutely awesome looking. May be my new favorite (Golden Nugget will now take second place).

Also been liking the look of the L075 Para Pleco and may add one to the collection...

Additionally, the Red Tiger Severum (x4) from Wet Spot have been doing awesome. No signs of any illness. They've been feeding well since the first day they were introduced into their quarantine tank. I'm almost getting impatient and want to place them into the main tank but I'll hold off... I'll give them a full month and monitor for any signs of anything. I have the temp at 83 but stopped using Paraguard after just 3 days of treatment. So far, they're doing great.

The gold nugget has settled in really well into the tank despite being only recently relocated. Despite two very nice pieces of driftwood both the snowball and the gold nugget have decided to move into the same one...

The snowball still hides like his life depends on it (though I've caught the fool coming out to eat watermelon from the corner of my eye). The gold nugget has found his comfortable position out in the open, but close enough to "security" under his log.

The Satanoperca leucocista are doing great too. SUPER shy though and immediately run away with any movement. Here's a picture of a group of them with a Sterbai cory in the pic for comparison haha.

I've looked / read all the reports that I can and have not seen anything saying that Cory cats cannot be kept with Eartheaters / Severums. If anyone has any information to the contrary please let me know. Otherwise I'd really like to keep my cory cats as they are one of few fish from my original planted tank that I cannot part with! The others are my denison barbs which I know work well with peaceful SA, and my panda garras which are great algae eaters and look awesome (fantastic alternative to the otocinclus which I find to be far too dainty).

I think the severum will be able to eat the cories, particularly the smaller growing ones. That'll be several years down the line, however.

Some nice fish! I love my Para Plec (L075). She is gorgeous and she is not shy. She loves her cave but I see her out of it all the time, too.

Hmm good call! I felt like they might end up as a good snack... ah well I'll keep em until I feel that the sevs become too big :)

Thank you! Looking around for the para plec at LFS but may ultimately go the online route again. I'm not super patient to wait on potential shipments of things :)

Do you find your para plec actually uses pleco caves? I bought a half dome cave but the Snowball and GN and Royal never use it! They just all hang out on the same piece of driftwood haha...

Red Tiger Severums are doing awesome. All 4x of them! I want them out of QT and into main tank!

Updated Planned Stock List:

6x Satanoperca leucocista
4x Red Tiger Severum
2x Rotkeil Severum
9x Denison Barbs (increased from 6x)
9x Panda Garra (residual from my planted tank. They grow to a bulky 3-4 inches)
1x Big White Spot Snowball LDA033 Pleco
1x Irriri Golden Nugget L177 Pleco
1x Sabaji Leopard Para L075 Pleco

This means I'll need to pick up a Sabaji L075 and a few more Denison barbs soon :) More reasons to go to the LFS...

I'm not sure - I don't have pleco caves - she uses a cave I made with rocks. If I didn't have that I think she might. It's hard to say. She is always in it in different angles so I'm not sure (vs. the long style of the pleco cave.) She is definitely more cave-oriented than my BN, though, who likes to hang in/on the wood.

I am just so in love with the sevs! Why must they eat plants?!?
