Fry tank algae

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Extremely. Alkalinity is like zero. I have to add chemicals to it every water change, which increases the pH to 7.6+.

Some people have all the luck. To give you an idea of my struggle.... currently mid 4 hour water change for my pandas.

I buy ro, warm and agitate, add hydrochloric acid, and then agitate more, then perform actual water change. They get 50% every three days.

I don't go through all that. I have a 20 gallon reservoir under my tank. I just fill it up, add my chemicals, wait 15 minutes, and then fill the tank up. I do a %40 daily, so I have to fill the reservoir up exactly 4 times. I don't worry about heating the water, because the tank temp only drops about 3 degrees in the hour and a half that it takes me to do my water change.

I have to heat. The tank temp is 86.5, and the ro water is usually around 75. Adds a lot of time to the process.

My tank is always 82, and never drops below 78 after a water change. Usually it's around 79 after a water change. I wouldn't know what the temp of the tap water is, because I haven't bothered to check it.

Interesting thing: over the last few days, the vast majority of the algae died. I'm assuming it finally ate itself to death. What remains however, formed these pretty cool looking blobs. Also, the water is startlingly clear.
