Silurus glanis...overdue upgrade

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Happy for you, Russ! And for BigRich. Ohio's indeed blessed.

On my end, I am still hoarding :) But then I ain't got any show pieces of the size and splendor of your wels.

We are not open to public at large yet either. Still working on my 20K.

Much appreciated Viktor! Rich had some power issues, lost stock and some of mine found there way there shortly after...everybody wins ... I agree, lucky to have help close by here in Ohio. I wish i could hoard as much as u do, believe me.. i had to take a step back and look for the future and finish out the tank i started building yrs ago now. One day ill be able to bring in some new stocks. Anxiously awaiting my chance for an all out catfish relapse lol :) . Until then most all my "growout tanks" 180-500gal have turned into ray tanks to help fund my cause.

I give ya alot of credit for what ur able to do, not easy or cheap to sustain. Ill come down and see ya one of these days when i get a break...and find a good "fish sitter" haha... Cant wait to see the 20k up... ur facility is already jaw dropping :)

was your wels eyes red when you first got him and they changed overtime? I noticed somewhere in the thread you said albino? Getting one albinoSilurus glanis from Wes Thursday ....it's noted that they have red eyes.....I don't mind just curious. wednesday13 wednesday13

im tryin to be down to 10 tanks total...lol..still will be a total volume around 7,500gal but all on autodrip systems so matienence isnt so bad these days. i enjoy my low stocks of 1-6 fish per oversized tank aswell for ease of "chores"... i always wondered how the older members had restraint and i am finally learning it myself over the years in the hobby. I started breeding rays to help fund my projects/utilities and life has been much more relaxing. For many years i was a slave to the hobby rather than enjoying it. My motto these days has been "ive kept the rest, now keep the best" :). Was hard to part with some fish ive had for many yrs, but if there costin me more money than there worth to me its not worth feedin em sadly. I spent 2 many yrs accepting donations/rescues that it hindered the bigger picture. My own personal collection is doing much better now after weeding out other peoples burdens. I can afford to feed them more and quality of life has improved for me greatly over the past few yrs. My fish #'s in house may be down, but gallons are still goin up :) and progress on some front is always a good thing.
This is something I will need to learn as well....maybe later on. :) Congrats on your new found happiness/peace.

this is interesting as i go through this very same thing. when i picked up my goonch i didnt realise the impact it would have on my attitude towards my other fish and keeping as a hole. it's not that i cant house them all or that i cant afford too but more the need/want to give this one fish everything it deserves and more that means i don't want to keep the rest. so now i'm focused on two large tanks rather than loads of smaller ones. you do inspire!!
