Hello; Here is an opinion question for you. The noon news stated that there is a request (from the police i believe)(who actually made the request is not important to the question) that open carry be suspended in Cleveland Ohio during the RNC.

My question - Generally what does anyone think about such a suspension of carry rights?

More to the point for me is the potential effect this might have on the people of Cleveland going about their ordinary businees and having nothing to do with the political convention. I get that the authorities hope to prevent potential problems associated with the convention, but how will that help the average person not involved with the convention?
This whole...."suspension of rights of open carry" thing started with Obama mentioning it during one of his speeches a few days ago.He uttered some foolishness to the effect that the police will have difficulty knowing who is shooting at them due to so many people open carrying at protest rallies.....eh,here is a news flash, the person who is shooting won't be carrying because he will be aiming.....so now we have the head of the police officer's union who has mentioned suspending those carry rights until the convention is over. The governor has already said that he does not have the power to impose such a measure.

Hello; I did not know this, but am not suprised. Does not miss a trick nor shy away from pushing his agenda.

the person who is shooting won't be carrying because he will be aiming.....
Hello; This is true and logical.

The governor has already said that he does not have the power to impose such a measure.
Hello; This is good in my opinion. I hope they do not find a way around it. A right that can be suspended at the whim of a politican is not much of a right. If "it" (a right)(any sort of right) can be suspended for this reason, then it's a fair bet some will find many other reasons to suspend.

Should my right of __________________( free speech, assembly, vote, fair trial and so on) be liable to be suspended because some one else "may" do something?

I don't think Governor Kasich ever wanted to impose the measure or ever even took the idea seriously....especially considering who proposed it in the first place.

Absolutely not.

Police Union head Stephen Loomis on his crusade to get citizens rights suspended,"We are sending a letter to Gov.Kasich,He could very easily do some kind of executive order or something.I don't care if it is constitutional or not at this point,we can argue about that later". Loomis also claimed to have hired Special Forces teams for security purposes during the RNC.

prob just me, and my stance on carrying is well known, but does not make sense to have a bunch of folks walking around with assault rifles, in a crowd full of protesters, or any large charged up crowd. If I was cop, and the shooting started, at the least, I would be keeping an eye on them while trying to see who the shooter is, this is dividing there attention., at the worst they start shooting at things themselves, in a crowd and then there be a real F$%^aroo. I am not saying suspend any one rights, just the folks walking around like that is a bad ideal.

I agree, public protest is no place to be walking around and openly expressing one's 2A rights.Law abiding citizen or not.
Last week during that Dallas fiasco I couldn't help but wonder what was on that guy's mind for him to be out there parading around with his AR.You are at a police protest brandishing a semi automatic rifle.....for what reason? If I were a cop I would take that as a threatening gesture. The protest wasnt about gun rights so there was no reason for the guy to be carrying it other than just showing off.

that is pretty much it, you have the other 355 days of the year to walk around with your rifle if you like to exercise your right. IMHO open carrying is a mistake to begin with. you are making your self the target. personally I do not want the bad guy knowing I am armed till I shoot him. or at the least have drawn and instructed him that this may be his last day depending what he does next.

Megan kelly really turned onto a clown. Just watched her get schooled by the head of the Cleveland police union
