Moving, need a pop for a 90g

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
6 is a bit much given that when a pair forms they might just kill the others overnight

But if you have 4 they may never pair? Better to have a healthy pair and two as food rather than nothing at all?

I like more of the oddball fish. Especially characins. So for me I would suggest couple of upper jaw polys (2), Large African Brown knife, hydro scombs.

Maybe a pea puffer planted tank.

Tank with 4-5 elephant nose fish and pvc's.

Tank of hill stream loaches and some colorful gobies. Some mild to moderate current on the tank.

Those come to mind.
I've never known what upper and lower jaws were, but I do have two retros, two or three ornates left. Those can basically go with everything :D

Only knives I like are the bigger ones. :(

As for the scomb, I was under the impression it needed twice that tank size. :O

Since we're talking oddballs, I even considered switching to brackish for some archers, but the tank is still too small especially if I want to lower water level for actual water jet hunting.

is the tank 100 gallons or litres? exodons are done best by keeping a massive group, and heavy feeding + heavy waterchanges.

i would also recommend african knives, wonderful fish
90 gal, 350 liters. The 100L is the tiny tank I am still not sure I care to move with.
I would go a group of 20 to 50 depending on what can fit in that size tank.
As for heavy water changes, if it's a lot of water once a week, can do. if 20% every other day, no can do!

What about a small group of channa bleheri, maybe 6 or so
I have a bonded pair of Aurantis, I'll go that route over bleheris a thousand times over. But as I said in the OP, if you setup your tank right, it'll have enough plants that you barely ever see them.

Thanks for the comments guys, the more ideas, the better! ;D
So far I still have no idea what I want to do, but I'm open to the craziest suggestion, as long as it fits and is for life (And it doesn't cost what an Aimara costs xD)

How about a group of duck bill catfish, Galaxy catfish or a group of gulper catfish?

I love sorubims, they're pretty amazing, and unlike most other cats, that's a possibility!
Gulpers can work in groups? I don't know how active they are, I never put much research into them because of the impossibility to mix them.

So far, my favorite ideas are:
- Solo Mala, hoping they don't unroot plants
- A big shoal of Exodons, if weekly maintenance can suffice
- Sorubims and Polys sounds good, would need middle swimmers.

Mala could work given lazy nature, ery might be better?
Exodons if you can get them. I found none ever

Ery can have the 100L, or share the 90g if I decide out of my already prefered ideas. ;)
I see Exodons by the hundreds every few months, I don't mind keeping an empty tank for a few weeks once I moved. :) (Good thing about having your LFS' wholesaler account :D)

Red Aimara Red Aimara I don't know if you read this section, but perhaps you have an idea? You're the kind to think outside the box ;D Bear in mind they have to be in there for life, so no teasing me with ATF or such! :P

Ur polys are upper jaws. The retros will do but the ornate will get large.

Gulpers can be kept in groups of their own kind.

Malas shouldn't up root any plants. Since they are pretty sedentary then should be good.

Group of exodons will be active. Keep fed regularly then won't have to restock so often.

My retros caught up on size with the ornatipinnis, for some reason, the ornates don't seem to be growing much at all in the 180, but to be fair, with 4 odoes, an Ery and 5 SDs, they get to eat sparsely. :o
You're the gold mine when it comes to ideas mate, thanks a bunch :D

If anything out of the ordinary, keep it coming, guys! ;)

Have you considered a rhom piranha? A 90 gal would be OK with water changes and it is a fish you can upsize if you have the resources. I highly recommend knives still

I have, but upsizing is not an option, not until I buy a house.
I found RBPs to be boring when I had them, but I figured a Rhom is quite another beast, and was kind of tempted a few times (though, I dislike their juvie shape, but their adult shape is amazing, if we're talking black rhom). I don't think I'd even consider 3 RBPs in that volume, let alone a Rhom.

As for the knives, I still don't like them. :(
