New 65G tank stocked need opinions!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Fish stores don't even care ... they will not hesitate to sell people multiple fish that grow over 1 foot in length for a tank that is too small for even one of those fish.

I'm sorry to be this guy but I would recommend against silver dollars they are to active for a 3 foot tank. I would get your angels a big school of cory cats a brislenose pleco and a large school of tetra like rummy noses or cardinal tetras.

Ok sad to update this thread but this tank now leaks!!! That's right, I purchased his brand new in February and it started leaking last weekend, luckily I have the Oscar and angels in a temporary home until I can try and do a repair. From what I can tell the front seal across the bottom of the tank gave out and there was a steady stream of water leaking out, within 40 mins half my tank was in my bedroom floor! Going to look at different silicone brands tomorrow and see what I could use for a repair wish me luck.

Sounds bad. Oscars need biggwr than 75 to truly thrive IMO

Silver dollars need a 6ft tank to have enough space to shoal and swim without bashing their noses when spooked

My silver dollars are currently in my 5ft and doing great. They were in a four foot for a while and every time someone who wasn't me or my hubby walked past they would spaz out and go silly. Since putting them back into the 5ft they've calmed down heaps, guests can walk past the tank without them going stupid now, it's great! Mind you I only have two and if I had more than four I would want a 6ft for sure.

As for oscars in a 75g, I (like everyone else) have an opinion on that, and my opinion is a fish that can get to the size oscars are capable of doesn't belong in anything less than 6x2x1.5. I had a male geophagus brasiliensis who was about 13inches long (33.5cm to be exact) and kept him in a 5ft approximately 100g tank and it was WAY to small for him. If I could have gotten a bigger tank for him I would of in a heartbeat but living where I do made it virtually impossible to get a bigger tank.
Since I started keeping fish (about 6yrs) the biggest tank I've found other than my 5ft was a 1200ltr 9ft that would of collapsed my floor in... Anyways what I'm saying is that in my opinion (key words here are MY OPINION) a fish capable of getting to 12inches needs a tank that is at least 2ft wide..

Disclaimer: I do not know everything, nor do I claim to. These are my opinions that I have developed out of my own experience. No hate please. :)

I need to clarify I don't own any silver dollars the only thing in this tank was a 4 inch Oscar and two angels
