Should I build the fish shed?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Why? I had already mentioned the tanks in previous threads. Why does everyne here hate me so much?
I don't hate you. :)

I think you're confusing annoyance with hatred. Honestly kiddo, sometimes it seems like you only take the advice you want to hear. You ask "should I build a fish shed?" people respond with "yay/nay" and you listen only to the people that say what you want to hear..

The reason people are saying not to build a fish shed is this:
I have a common pleco and he is about 2.5 inches long. I got him well over a year ago. He currently resides in my 40 breeder with my ranchus. I feel bad since the water in that tank is cloudy and a water change is long overdue. He has remained about the same size since i got him.

I am going to get a python water changer. I am going to do a water change tomorrow. I feel like i have been neglecting my fish. Will he grow once i start doing more water changes? I am going to set up another 40 that i have for a cichlid with a heater and i will move him up there. I am feeding him hikari algae wafers. I do not feed him that often. I will start feeding him more.

I added 4 algae wafers and he has not touched him. The water is a bit cloudy. I will do a water change tomorrow. It is a double steel stand with 2 40s and he is on the bottom. Originally the fish that are in the bottom were in the top tank and the goldfish that were in the bottom tank got moved outside so i drained the top tank since it had green water and moved the lionheads and the pleco to the bottom. My old marineland light got corroded and stopped working. The 1 light usually lights up both tanks. I am going to refill the top tank and get a blood parrot cichlid. There is this large one that somebody dropped off at the LFS that needs a new home that i like a lot. I am also going to get a new light. I am going to get a 75ft python water changer in like a week and that should help with water changes. I have been busy this year and i have neglected doing water changes.

To be honest, i probably have not done a water change in the bottom 40 at all this year. The pleco was in the top 40.

not the past 12 months but most all of 2016. Probably less than 7, but still a long time.

I almost feel like i am losing interest in fish but i don't want to. I have not done a water change on one of my tanks for like 7 months. I have plans for larger tanks and ponds, but i am afraid that i am going to lose interest. I was really interested in electronics for a brief period of time and then i just lost interest. I was interested in electronics for about 4 months. I have had fish for a very long time and i am afraid i will loose interest. I was interested in fish about 6 years ago and i had a 19 gallon tank and i lost interest. I had a goldfish in that 10 gallon and i moved him to a 20 and then a 55 and i was really interested but i am afraid i am going to lose interest again. Maybe it is because i have not done much new with aquariums recently. I hope i don't loose interest in fish like i did with electronics, but i was never really passionate about electronics like i am with fish. I feel like i am neglecting my fish. I have been super busy and really stressed during the 2015-16 school year. That was my teacher's last year teaching. She is now retired. She is dying from smoking 60+ cigarettes a day. She would leave class every 30 minutes to smoke. The beginning of the school year was great, but it got bad as my teacher got sicker.

I am going to get a blood parrot cichlid. I may build a greenhouse and if i do, i will build an above ground stingray and arowana pond and a 180 gallon acrylic ranchu tank. I just feel bad that i have not been doing water changes and i think i am going to do it, but i just don't get around to it. I am going to get one of those python aquarium water changes. I had a REAL difficult time over the school year. It was very traumatic and upsetting. I have been really on-edge since about september of 2015.

U just feel bad because the filter on my pond isn't working and the koi have been in high ammonia for a long time. I am trying to get it working. Also, 2 of my chickens have bumblefoot that needs to be cut out, so I have been feeling stressed recently.

I don't have a playstation. I don't play video games. It isn't worth my time. I added safe to the tanks, so the fish aren't suffering, but I am going to do water changes hopefully tomorrow. NOW REMIND ME? WHY THE HELL DO I NEED TO GET A NEW PUMP FOR MY KOI POND?!?! I HAVE AN ES3500 PUMP. I just got through repairing the air pump for the moving bed filter last night. I am pretty frustrated about the koi pond right now. I don't have much to sell. I had 2 computers but now I only have one because I punched the other one out of frustration and it doesn't work any more. And to be completely 100% honest, I have been skipping maintenance because I don't feel well. Whenever I get up from sitting down for even a short period of time I almost pass out. I haven't been feeling well recently. S skjl47 My chickens are young. They hardly have any meat on their bones, but they are great layers. It would be senseless to kill them. They are my pets and I won't kill them.
Above are some seventy billion posts by you, in every one of them you say that you feel like you've been neglecting your fish, or that you're losing interest in the hobby, or that you hadn't done a water change in X amount of days/weeks/months etc. I didn't even have to look hard to find these, if I actually searched for posts about you neglecting your fish I'd probably find twice as many.

This annoys people, you're a smart kid, surely you can see when people are getting annoyed with you? Surely you can understand why people get annoyed with this stuff?

I remember you once had a bit of a go at me for keeping my comet with my fancy goldfish, fair enough its not something that shouldn't be done. But seeing as how at this point you'd not done a water change in months, don't you think it's a little hypocritical to "school" people about looking after their fish when you don't look after yours?

I'm not trying to be mean, I'm trying to explain to you why people get annoyed with you. :)

Post Script: sorry about the wall of text.

Post Post Script: I'm not trying to argue.

I would imagine the Walmart betta joke is that the betta at Walmart are always in terrible shape with not enough water or dirty water.

Hello; The Wal-Mart reference goes back to one of the OP's threads a while back. It progressed much like this thread has and did move from folks trying to be helpful to being a bit annoyed.
At some point the posts moved to side comments about things such as "bad karma" and reincarnation. I think a comment was made reflecting about the way the OP described treating his fish poorly might lead to coming back as a Wal-Mart betta in another life. For some reason that stuck with me.

Haha. That's funny.

I got the python water changer. So you think I should get rid of my fish?
I think you should get into a routine with their maintenance.

If you love your fish it would be hard to just "get rid" of them.

Here's what I'd do in your situation: buy/make/download a 2016-2017 calendar and start crossing out each day as it passes, mark one or two (or however many) days a week with a big red (or whatever colour) fish. When you cross off the day with the fish on it, get out the python and change your tanks.

If you can get into a maintenance routine then I see no reason to get rid of your fish. However if you're not willing to put in the hard yards then yes, rehome them.

Good luck carp, I hope it all works out for you. :)

I do love my fish and I can't get rid of them and I do get into a maintenance routine and then I skip one water change and then I skip another and another. That is why I started the losing interest threads because I was worried I was losing interest.

People are creatures of habit, we're also very lazy. If you're in the habit of doing maintenance, then you skip a change, before long skipping maintenance becomes routine because it allows for more laziness..

Try your hardest not to skip changes, ask your parents for help if you can't be bothered, drink some red cordial, eat a bag of sugar, whatever it takes to get that water changed! :)
