oscar to small?

I use straight sodium thio mix to treat my chloramine treated tap water, although the thio does not effect ammonia, it does break the chlorine bond, and neutralize the chlorine.
Here is an aliquot of straight tap before sodium thio treatment.

Here is an aliquot from the same sample, but after neutralization with sodium thio

So the api stress coat is not what I want to use? What Is the best to use for big water changes

How do you neutralize the ammonia? Or do you just keep water changes small and let biofilter rid your tank of the ammonia.

The ammonia concentration is fairly insignificant (0.2ppm), and since I always add water to the sumps and its biomedia, as opposed to tanks, by the time it is mixed and enters the tanks with fish, it is undetectable.
My normal water change routine, is 30% water change every other day

I only read a little into this. You dont need to worry about water changing if you did 20-25 percent every 3 - 4 weeks. You check your parameters and they are fine then you have nothing to worry about. Fish is probably growing just fine. Every fish will vary.

this is highly inaccurate.

If you're only doing 20-25% WCs every 3-4 weeks you might as well not even do them at all. This type of maintenance schedule stunts growth, allows sediment to build as well as ammonia, and nitrates.....they may not register in the test because they are trapped in pockets in the gravel and under décor then when they get stirred up it becomes toxic

What are your thoughts on undergravel filtration?

Under gravel filtration is harder to do,especially with oscars,a water change regimen of about 50 percent a week is necessary.
