I have him in a 135 gallon now and I use my fluval fx4 to drain it down to 3/4 full then fill it back up I never did more then that because I figured you wouldn't want all that chlorine water in the tank when you fill it

Get yourself a good dechlorinator then you can change as much as you like! I use seachem prime and I love it, its inexpensive for how much water it treats, and it can be safely overdosed a little which is great of you're like me and can't be bothered working out the calculations for dosing smaller tanks - with prime close enough is good enough as long as there's definitely enough.

Then you can change as much water as you want! Just dose the stress coat accordingly. A 90% WC with stress coat won't bother your little oscar as long as there isn't an extreme swing in temperature or pH.
U can also add a little more protein to the diet for better growth,give tilapia pieces,crickets and bits of shrimp.
The problem with API stress coat is its a sodium thiosulphate dechlor, so its ineffective against any water supply treated with chloramine(chlorine infused with ammonia)

I didn't know that. I just assumed they'd all treat for chloramine like prime does? That'll teach me for making assumptions
goes along the lines when asking, folks say my water is crystal clear, crystal clear water has probably killed more fish than anything else in the aquarium. crystal clear water does equate to good water.
