In order to keep garden hoses supple, a chemical agent is sometimes added by the manufacturer. This chemical can sometimes leach into to water. So as a means to dump old water, it is fine. But if used over time, those chemicals can cause a problem if used on the water to your tank. Once or twice may not cause a problem, but regular use may be dangerous to your fish
What do you recommend to use as a way to fill up the tank? I need to figure out something besides buckets or the garden hose. I have no idea what to look for at the hardware store. Clear tubing and some sort of faucet adapter?
I use garden hose to drain fast, and phython to refill from the sync.

thank you! that's an awesome set up you have there with the valves under the tank too!
I have some tanks in my fish room that I fill up with a pocket hose (works great because it collapses and is easy to store)
I also use these "pocket hoses" on 2 of my tanks, along with regular, cheapo garden hoses for my other 2 tanks. I do over 50% w/c twice per week and my stocks are 2-4 years old.
On a side note, my 180 uses regular PVC for filtration plumbing and not the "potable water" PVC
Yes, I use regular PVC too. I plumbed up the tanks before I knew it was controversial.
Oh well, the fish are still alive and breeding, I do regular water changes, so hopefully if there is nasty stuff in the PVC , it is diluted enough.
