Question number 2 million about stocking a 75g (aka i have no idea what directiin to go with my tank

Hey all! (I am new to this forum, and although I have read the rules I hope I posted in the right place. Please let me know if not!)

I have an empty 75 gallon tank, and I have agonized for weeks over what to stock it with. I'm hoping I'll be able to get some guidence.

I really want a "wet pet" type fish. Interacting with me is very important. I want something that follows me at the glass, begs to be fed, and shows excitement when I bring the food out.

That said, I would love to be able to have more than one fish. I would especially love fish that breed readily.

Are there any combinations of fish that would satisfy both of these needs? If I set aside good husbandry, an Oscar with a pair of convicts would be ideal. From what I have read that wouldn't be a good match though..

Welcome to MFK R Rebelsgirl you are some what on the right path as choosing a specie of cichlid. Tbh if a pair of Convicts spawned in a 75 with a Oscar they would lol have the Oscar utilizing only a partial area on the opposite end of the aquarium.

An Oscar or a Midevil is probably your best bet (without tank mates) when its grown you'll see why, especially an Oscar they can make a 75 look real small in about 10 months. You will need some big filters to keep up with a big fish in a smallish tank with lots of water changes as they get bigger.

75g is bare min for one Oscar and nothing else. convict pare alone would work, lots of other options and let folks pipe in on those. While fry are fun at first, they become a pain when its every 3 or 4 weeks.

It would be fine until if you by chance put Convicts in and they paired off, they would make it uncomfortable for the Oscar . Convicts are fearless when it comes to rearing fry.

Thanks! I have bought two biowheel filters, one for 70 gallons and one for 90 gallons. Will that be sufficient?

Those will suffice but make sure you do routine weekly water changes, and filter maintenance when needed also have a good water conditioner such as Seachem Prime on hand for the wc's.

If you want to breed something a pair of convicts will do that but like everyone said avoid adding a Oscar plus you should get another tank with a predator to deal with the fry. You could maybe go single Oscar and a catfish
