I bought a male Jack Dempsey today and put him in my tank with my female Jack Dempsey. The female was fine at first, flashing her colors and staying next to him, flapping her tail. Then about ten minutes later she started biting him and chasing him. So I took him out and put him in my other tank. Does that mean they won't be able to be comparable in a tank? Or should I just leave him in there for a little and see if she calms down??? Anyone have experience in pairing Jacks?

yea I got some lol u got pix of them?

She owned her tank, it was her territory, he is an interloper. Allmost all cichlids are territorial, so unless you out them in a tank at exactly the same time, the new one is at a disadvantage, unless they are a perfectly compatible pair.
You could put a light diffusor divider in the tank with the female on one side and male on the other, and it might let them get used to each other being in the tank together gradually.
But just because you have a male and female, doesn't mean they will get along.
Cichlids have complicated courting rituals and strategies in accepting a partner.
Its often better to put 5 or 6 of a species together, and let them choose their own partners.
Your human criteria may not agree with their mate selection.

The guy at the fish store was pretty positive it was a male

might be a little early to tell, but he does have male characteristics. How big is he?

You could try adding more females.....I have what I thought was a harem of 1M; 6F, but now a year later it's starting to look more like 3M; 4F. Years ago when I bred them, I had 1M and 5 or 6 females so I tried to do the same thing again.
