Switched from prime to safe- dead fish

Does anyone use feeders? What's some good methods to ensure healthy fish supply? I've even considered buying more expensive fish that are meant for feeders to use but that won't be cheap. Maybe breed? I'm happy to try that if not really crazy to do and worth it.

I made another thread about the feeders.
 
Ok so i got home from work to find at least one dead fish in each of my other tanks. A silver dollar in my large tank and a pleco and rasbora in my 55. I tested the water and it's good. No other explanation at this point i think. Somehow the measurements i used were wrong or something with the safe. I used a gram sized scoop (i have a digital scale and weighed out a scoop and it was 1.2 grams. So it's close and enough of a dose i think. What could have gone wrong?? :(
 
One thing you can do is go ahead and pour a cup (maybe a half cup) of bleach/chlorine in the tank and let it circulate for an hour or so. Then do two or three really large water changes (around 90%) and make sure to add a double dose of dechlorinator on the last water change. This will kill anything in the tank. This includes the beneficial bacteria so the tank will have to be cycled again but it should be easier than breaking the whole tank down...unless you want to take this time to completely scrub and clean everything.

Is it possible that something happened with the water in your area and they have added extra chlorine? I've heard of this happening to many people and some have seen chlorine levels as high as 10-11ppm (my parents' keep their pool between 2-3ppm for comparison).

You never know... I will look into that. But that would be a big coincidence to be same time i switch declorinators.
 
I have never had an issue with safe, been using for years, I do 90% or fin level water changes, always dose for size of tank, not water replacing.

How do you reconstitute the powder? How much water to dose and Stuff
O. P. I am wondering if the amount of water you used to dissolve the safe was to small and they got hit with to high of a concentration or the powder didn't dissolve fast enough for the incoming water and the feeders reacted poorly in their respective state of health
