Hey guys, this is the first time I am attempting to breed my FHs, I've gotten two females for my boy, today I made a custom plexiglass divider and to test it out I placed my female Kamfa with my FH, I only did it to test how strong it was going to hold against attacks.

Well after a couple of minutes there was barely any aggression (even from the beginning) from either one of them, the female seem like she wanted to be on the other side with the male, I left the room for a couple of minutes and she jumped the divider (i cut it a little too short).

After the jump they both started "dancing", while they where doing their thing I noticed the female has something unusual on the bottom. SO i dont know if im too excited and im blind of excitement or is this really happening, is her tube coming down ? What you guys think?

Thanks in advance for all the feed back .

Yes that's her egg tube but he has to be ready also and you will notice the males tube as well. :-)

OMG this is awesome, they seem to paired up already, so the male organ also comes out a little bit?

How long then until the tube comes down more on the female and shes ready to lay eggs?

Any advice for a first timer also :P

Her egg tube is already extended but she is ready so keep your eye on the male and make sure he doesn't get overly aggressive. Seeing them dance and lip locking is a great sign that they are ready to spawn. Let nature take its course if everything seems to be going well.:)

Btw if they do spawn and you notice eggs you want to cover that intake tube for the filter with a sponge or cover with aquarium safe mesh material so fry won't get sucked up in the filter. Once the eggs hatch you will notice wrigglers in a pit or even on the gravel once the egg sac is absorbed the fry will become free swimming and will be ready for food . The food can be pulverized pellets you feed to the parents or pulverized flake foods fry will even feed off of the slime coat of the parents. The only negative is sometimes first time parents will eat their first batch of fry. Some fish get better with experience.

If you don't feel like crushing the food yourself their is products available for fry such as Hikari First Bites, and Ocean Nutrition Instant Baby Brine Shrimp.

If she lays and he fertilize them, if she lays them on the dish can't I take the fish out and place jt on my 10g, I have a sponge filter in there and a 2.5" female Flowerhor which I would pull her out before the dish came in,

You could remove the dish with the eggs only if you have a seeded sponge filter ready and the parameters and temperature should match. Personally I would let them be and once the fry is free swimming then siphon a few out to raise yourself.

Thanks for the advice. I think I'm going to leave them in there. I do have a seeded sponge filter and a 10G tank ready, I just need to remove the little FH female I have in there .

BTW what kind of mesh I can place over my filter intake

Thanks again for all your help
