I think my senegal is a goner. :(

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I euthanized him today with clove oil. He seemed to be suffering.

My husband and I did an autopsy, and there was nothing in there - it wasn't the substrate. Polyaddict86 Polyaddict86 was right (and I was hesitant to believe it) - his jaw was dislocated on the left side. That must have been painful. :(

So, I guess there is nothing I could have done to prevent this which is aggravating.

I'll go to the wet spot tomorrow and look at the palmas palmas and the delhezi and try again. I want another active poly with personality. And I think both species are gorgeous. But with the 3 foot dimension, even with 18" width, I don't think I can do both until I upgrade when we move in a year or so. I'd like to have both eventually.

RIP buddy - you were my gateway poly. <3

Sorry for the loss of your senegal. That is super devastating to hear, especially for a first poly passing. At least your senegal isn't suffering anymore and you have all the happy memories. RIP senegal.

Proud of you for trying again. You can always do palmas palmas, delhezi, and senegal together. That would be exciting!

I just noticed that wetspot have a palmas polli, they are really active, i bought two from wetspot before.
Here is the palmas polli i got from them.

LOL! You guys are such enablers. If I had known when I bought the tank that getting the 75 would have been so much better with the length... but this one fit PERFECTLY in the spot I wanted to put it. Oh well. Live and learn. I will say that the Senegal loved swimming at all levels of the tank, up and down in the plants, so he seemed to actually like the height, but I do understand that width / depth is far more important.

I am going there today.

They have a single 6" wild Delhezi.
I hope I like his markings...I really like the striped patterns in the Dels. I think they're one of my favorites look wise and are supposed to be fantastic, so I know I need a Del at some point. :) If he is plain, I might have to wait.

They have 6" wild Palmas Palmas
I will look for striking patterns and active, curious guys

They have 4+ CB Senegals, and 3-4" albinos
I don't have any qualms about Senegals - I loved Mr. Noodles for his personality.
The albinos don't really appeal to me. Platinums do, though! :)
I just don't like the pink eyes as much. Maybe I need to go look for adult pics.

And they have 4" Wild Pollis and 3-4" Wild Buettikoferi
I just really love the looks of the Palmas Palmas the most... I am a sucker for contrast and stripes and polka dots etc with fish. The other two are pretty, and I like the yellow and green, but their markings are more muddled looking. But I have read a lot about how active and personable the Pollis are in particular.

I am actually really excited to get 2 or 3! I have ALWAYS loved snake like fish, bottom fish - kuhli loaches, gobies, etc... And these guys have way more personality. They are like swimming dragon dinosaur snakes. ;)

I like the looks of the buettikoferis better than the pollis.

We'll see what I decide when I see the actual fish. They open at 10. :)

Beuttikoferi are really shy, most of the time they hide, even when feeding they like to hide or eat when its totally dark. If you like active poly you wont like a gold dust.

This is my old gold dust before it became meal:(
I had to use a camera flash to get the picture cause it likes to hide.

I agree with Polyaddict86 Polyaddict86 about the gold dust, they are quite nice looking but on the shy, inactive side.

Out of the palmas complex the palmas palmas is my favorite with the buettikoferi being second and not really a fan of the polli. The polli just seem a bit plain looking thats all, never owned one so I cant speak of its personality.

Another thing... you could wait for a little while for some of the rare upper jaws. Not many keep mokelembembe or retropinnis. Some other options to consider.
