For those of you that live in Pittsburgh, Elmer's is my LFS, but they only take donations. While that's great for if I need it. I'd just at least like some store credit. It's hard to give away a fish and watch them put it up for $250.

So if anyone knows anywhere that takes trades for store credit or whatever. I'm an hour south of downtown, but have zero problem driving a while.

Thanks guys, I know we have some swpa folks in here somewhere.

ohhhhh what up Yinzer fish keeper. Try AquaWorld. Last I checked they take trade ins. Elmers is the best in the area for sure, but with the high quality stock they carry I can see why they wouldn't do trade ins.

They are near Neville Island btw.

Not really helping the OP but in my area there is a big store that only take donations and yeah they do turn around and put the donation fish up for sale, but here is my story: I donated a huge Dovii (17 inches) to the store and next day they put its up for sale at for $350, it does shocked me that they try to make money from my fish and refuse to give me any kind of store credit. I came back 8 months later and guess what? my fish still there and nearly 22 inches LOL and they still try to sell it for $350. I reminded the store owner about thte fish and he remembered me right away and ask me if I wanted the fish back then just pay him the food fee around 50 bucks LOL I took it back and gave to my friend whose just built his own tank and looking for a mean big fish. :p

+1 on aquaworld. I've traded fish in there before, but expect about 10-20% of what they will try to resell it at.

oh the owner is a total cheapskate haha, and the prices there are outrageous on some stuff. That and some dude named "Jon" buys every decent fish they get in...rays...dats...everything in those tanks has "hold for Jon" on the front in sharpie lol.

Do you go anywhere else down there? I know other lfs exist but I only go to Elmers and AW.

Ohio doesn't count! You guys don't even know how to drive over there! haha
.....then,you would love the drivers in Philly lol!
Anywho,it seems that more and more places either no longer give store credit but will gladly take a donation or they try to give you next to nothing for your fish.I don't expect to get rich bringing a fish in but damn!! One store here that has a bunch of know nothings for staff wanted me to leave my fish there overnight so they could decide by the next day how much they would give for it and the gal said that it would be around ten to fifteen percent of what they will decide to sell it for.I didn't even want any credit, all I wanted to do was trade it for one of their fish and she wouldn't even go for that.

ya same with that lfs I suggested...the staff has a moderate knowledge but even the owner gets stumped when I ask for certain fish. I asked him if he could order odoe pike in once and he literally went silent for a minute then said he can get yellow pike...wrong country but cool dude lol.

Elmers however has fairly serious hobbyists as staff...I've never had one of them tell me something completely wrong.
