Tube coming down???? Is this happening?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thanks for the advice. I think I'm going to leave them in there. I do have a seeded sponge filter and a 10G tank ready, I just need to remove the little FH female I have in there .

BTW what kind of mesh I can place over my filter intake

Thanks again for all your help

Your very welcome

So , her tube keeps coming out a little bit, but then it seems to go in a little bit also sometimes. She still hasn't laid any eggs. A couple of days ago she was really dark, and taking practice runs on the clay dish, but still no eggs.

Any advice? Thanks.

Nope, she is a little more aggressive than him, he seems to want to spawn really bad, he never retaliates if she attacks (but she doesn't attack in a very aggressive way).

Welcome to the amazing fun; and horrors of breeding Flowerhorn. One time can be an absolute amazing joy to behold as the mother and father raise their fry, yet the same parents can turn on each other and try to kill each other and their offspring. Any time I pull a divider to let the male and female together for the first time I monitor them very carefully for the next 3-5 hours. Then I turn the lights off to see how they react to each other. If they stay close, swim together, then separate to patrol their potential breeding ground then everything is generally ok. However if they start to nip at each other and lip lock that can be a sign that they need to be separated.

Thanks, female tube still hasn't fully dropped. She's the one doing the picking at him, and not really much of it, they have been together for a couple of weeks now, no aggression but no eggs either ... Still waiting :)

Ok, thats great news. Try offering both of them some Hikari Frozen bloodworms. This can often speed up the females egg laying. When I have a pair getting ready to breed I increase their feedings up to 3 to 4 times a day, with bloodworms every other day for one of their meals. Make sure your PH is stable between 7.0-7.4 and leave the lights off as that makes both the male and female feel much calmer in the process.

Thanks a lot for the advice, I have my light on a timer, maybe I'll change it to off then, she eats mealworms and superworms, frozen blood worms she doesn't seem to care much for them. I'll try them again. My pH is around 7.6

Oh I forgot to mention, make sure you put a piece of slate or the bottom plate of a clay pot for the female to lay eggs on. The females can lay on the aquarium glass but that is far from ideal.

I have a clay pot dish in the tank. Its weird she is not acting like she was, her tube went in a little bit but its still out, its like back to square one :P .... One day last week she was very dark and was even doing practice runs on the clay dish, I was like this is IT!, but nothing happen.

Good thing is they are still getting along fine, they are on a 75G tank, is that too big for breeding purposes?

Beautiful fish you got there, thats a good looking girl.
