Thanks, debating whether to mix them all up again between my 180 and 220. Any advice from folks on how well they'd generally imagine that would go with nearly adult cichlids? I'd expect the worst but need to come up with some potential plans to prevent against rampant spawning. Was thinking to split males into one tank and females in another.
Your pair looks great! My male isn't nearly as stocky as yours - I think I need to start feeding them more often
Glad they pulled through, I know it can be touch and go if they go bonkers on each other. Looks like they're back to normal though.
I haven't kept my pair with other cichlids other than way back when they were smaller, and that didn't end well. They do fantastic with silver dollars, not so much with roseline sharks.
Does the female Festae maintain their striking appearance when not not spawning? Thinking out loud here; I imagine a single female Festae in a "community" tank would be more agreeable than a pair, but would she look almost as nice?

They do maintain their strips somewhat but not as bold as when they are breeding. You would be right in assuming that they are a little more mild mannered when kept alone.
A female festae is a definite force to be reckoned with when guarding fry.
