New to Polypterus - Substrate Advice!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I do parasite treatment, i put prazipro. But since i dont have a qt tank, i put them in the cooler thats why i only do 24hrs.

Kirt i might be wrong but when i screwed up and didnt qt a new fish my fish ended up with hex then columanris (spelling !) Worms. I thougjt i read that prazipro wasnt really affective for internal parasites i could def be wrong though.

Btw i totally get not having a qt man, glad its worked out.

In fact i may cut the substrate experiment short or delay it. I need a qt tank lol

I read that prazipro is not really good for internal parasite. I used a different kind for internal parasite, i used this once every 2-3 months for prevention.IMG_3504.JPG
I mixed this with their food. Melt it then soak the food with this, best one is the smelt or anchovies cause they have a strong smell and polys cant smell the medication.

Same as for prazipro, i used it once every two months just for prevention.

I use parasite gaurd. But simce we're on the subject. Nls hex sheild is good to since its medicated food.

Also epsom salt soaked pellets are what ive done for prevention...havent done it for the polys yet

You treat every couple of months even without adding new fish? Where would the parasites come from without a newcomer?

I feed fresh and frozen anchovies and smelt, idk what the fresh anchovies and smelt carries in their bellys, is not like they qt the anchovies before using it for fishing or cooking, lolz
