Hey guys.
Trying to get my male Dovii to be an actual beast.
Doing daily water changes, he has plenty of space etc.

Is about 5inches now.
What would you recommend for maximum growth?

I like the look of Massivore, but its 10mm only here..
Should I break it then throw it in, or do you recommend something different all together?

Thanks heaps Cichlid brothers! :D

The flesh of first born sons.
Lol! I think any quality pellet is fine as a staple, but a variety of foods should be offered. Insects, worms, prawns, silversides, fd krill etc... should be offered on occasion. You can also soak pellets in a vitamin supplement to enhance the nutritional value. That is if small children are hard to find in your locale.

Does the size of the pellet matter very much?
I heard some people say yes, some no..
What do you think?

My opinion is that a pellet should be small enough for the fish to pretty much swallow it. The more it gets chewed on the bigger mess it will make. The food is wasted and will impact water quality. I absolutely hate watching food particles get sucked into my filter.

I don't think size of the food matters at all. Nutritional values would make a much bigger difference and the ingredients.

Assuming similar ingredients and nutritional values you can always use a small food scale and weight out his portions. This would allow you to be consistent in feedings and prevent overfeeding.

Like others have said, variety is going to be key, same with water quality and stress levels. I think your on top of everything by the sounds of it.

Something else to consider is temperature. I have read many times over that raising the temps to the higher end will boost the energy levels and increase metabolism. This has been the case in many of my fish and reptiles over the year.

Hope this helps.

Size has a major influence on digestibility, as does the particle size of the raw ingredients that make up the pellet, hence both will play a role in growth rates of juvenile fish. Talk to a commercial fish farm, they will confirm.

i guess i should of been more clear. I do agree size does matter if we are talking about super large foods vs tiny foods. I made the assumption that all foods being considered would of a reasonable size for the fish to consume.

my bad.

Good food, good water, and plenty of patients, your still looking at about 4 to 5 years for him to get over 15 inch from what I have seen.

I have anecdotal evidence of this, from comparing the fish waste produced and its appearance or consistency. Is there a more in depth comprehensive comparison available somewhere?
