Updates from the 300

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Since we both got our ansorgii from Toyin around the same time, I feel like mine would show like yours if I changed to a red substrate. I feel my polys show a very natural color but they all tend toward the darks in the grey family.

The natural color can look nice too though. Combination of environment(substrate?) and also genetics? Could it be that the two Ansorgiis are from different regions or parents that were patterne/colored differently? Which would cause the greyish vs. more yellow coloration?

It's neat how your Lap has the lateral lines, but then patterns turn more circular close to his tail fins. Love the patterns. Glad we are getting to seem some Ansorgii pics though!

P.S. 1 vote for the LDR of Porkchop and Hulk

Im not sure if this applies to ansorgii but it definitly like that with endlis. Hobbyists/vendors use the catch location to describe them. Faranah, dabola, guinea, tinkisso blah blah blah... no two are alike and imo even from the catch same catch locations. I had a dabola and faranah iwould describe the faranah as more brown/tan base after ut settled in , flatter narrower head than the dabola which to me was more grayer/chocolate colored and thicker headshape. I think Polyaddict86 Polyaddict86 said that he finds his dabola to have more of a browner base than his faranah.

So imo nothing is aet in stone with these guys

clm08k clm08k over the summer we had a great discussion on the subject i'll try and find it for you later.

Vancouver_98683 Vancouver_98683 you remember that one ? If so link it

This is what I'm familiar with on Ansorgii variety that has been mentioned in prior mfk forums and elsewhere.

* Tikinsso - is what everybody is getting in some time now. They all look similar with the lap like lateral line.
* Nigeria/ogun - patterns are usually on lighter side or no markings.
* Koloton - green hues on marking and body. Checkerboard all over and no lateral line.

Thx for the compliment brother but not me... im learning all the time. Wish Dr.B Dr.B was active thats a freakin poly encyclopedia right there

You got me curious so out with the tape measure

Faranah lap at 15". hard to hold tape in one had and phone in other. Tail curl makes it look shorter but it is a real 15"

Then the ansorgii decided to come in

Again bad angle from trying to hold the tape and take a pic but ansorgii also 15". You can see the big endli in the back who is obviously even larger. Last real measurement against glass place it at 18".

So no more guesses, these are real sizes. The lap is thinner than the angorgii and at a glace looks longer but same length. The ansorgii has size and girth on the lap. The lap used to bully the ansorgii in the qt tank but they get along fine in the big tank with all the other polys.

Lap looks great man lovin it. Glad they are getting along.

This is the thread i was reffering to. Take a look at the pics vancouver posted. Tanks full of polys from the same catch location. Not all of those voltas have the classic thick bands and the pbb's all have some slight differences. Some base colors being different was the first that i noticed. I look at it like this... if these bodies of water are connected even by a puddle theres a good chance that these are all the same fish.

Regarding Endli - Call Polyaddict86 Polyaddict86 at 3 a.m. in the morning continuously. He's got 2 of most endli variants. - Just kidding about calling. Just text :-)
