Popeye on Red texas

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well fish is looking better meaning things are peeling off and fungus is going away but selling is the same. Doubt the eye has any vision on that side but it started to eat a little bit which shocked me.

I did add metro as well forgot to add that and salt. Meds been in there for a few days will do 90 percent change soon.

there could be a bigger problem or cold be trauma. Can try putting her in qt with clean water, salt and would use oxytetracycline or triple sulfer.

Seems to me its trauma. I did my meds and acts fine now thank god. Swelling is dramatically decreased but eye is cloudy. Its one eye so it leads me to believe it was trauma.

She is in a quarantine tank she was in a community tank prior with meds. She is a pig again starting get get appetite back. I held back on food and tossed some to entice her and she went for it. I doubt her vision will be the same but I think she will make a full recovery.

Lets say she heals fine will the eye eventually start to become become necrotic and fall off?

She is a new edition...got her from a guy and she had ich when I got her. Treated her and she was fine and then a month later popeye. Every single fish I have are fine. I do weekly water changes of 70-90 percent and nitrates are spot on.
put her in a hospital tank and use Fishbiotic's Penicillin - its treats Gram+ and Gram- bacteria, but also kills Beneficial Bacteria so use a hospital tank for that reason. Penicillin is best against eye-related issues....anything eye-oriented

Thanks Frank I did add some. Shes been great! Shes back to normal and eats like a damn pig again. Only issue is shes blind now. Its hard sometimes for her to eat properly and now I can't put her back in the community tank.

Yeah shes in a hospital tank but I washed out all the meds just epsom salt now. She has a white glaze over her and shes doing well.

I would keep treating w/ the penicillin.....it's supposed to clear that white up and "fix" her eyes from what a gather from a few sources. Keep using it for a bit

post a picture of her eye. She might have a cataract from the injury

From what I am gathering Penicillin is the wonder-drug that is supposed to clear up stuff like that, Brother

Granted, it's expensive, but so is a Red Texas....and I think the females are worth more if the males are sterile, right?

A lot of males are sterile but I have two just like that that are a breeding pair. The sick one happened to be my spare female so give my other female a break but I still might let her. I will due those meds.

Should I stop feeding when medicating? She is eating like a pig which is good but I don't feed her a lot. 6-7 pellets once a day and some of them are medicated.

to be honest the swelling is gone the only inflammation is the outside of the eye thats white is a slight bulge. Like mentioned maybe cataract. I am 100 percent sure its trauma now since it was unilateral happened in a matter of 12 hours from being normal to WTF IS THAT stage. Every other fish in that tank about 8 of them are doing perfectly fine.

Sadly she was for sale at around 100$ for this egg laying female. I'll keep her to breed or as a dither fish lol
