Upgrade planning - help me stock

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have always liked sevs, too. Since the chocolates are huge hogs, and it sounds like the Gold Saum and the Loiseilli might be a problem with aggression (right?) I wonder if I should do

- Heterospilus
- Polleni
- Severum

Thanks really stoked Polleni and the Vulture. I just picked up one of the Polleni, was the biggest of the three there. It's tiny though, only about an inch and lost in a 55 gallon. I can usually find it if I search lol. As soon as I get get some decent pics I'll get a threat up.
Should be easy to find soon enough the pics I posted earlier in this thread are fish under 2" in a 125. After about a week they were front and center begging all the time.

P Pomatomus said this in another thread about Chocolates - he has kept them successfully with polys in the past. So maybe still an option for me.
Large pellets or chunks of food do the trick for me. I add a bunch at once and the cichlids can only chew so fast! Tetra Jumbomin, chopped shrimp, and live nightcrawlers are my feeds of choice.

Definitely can.... no hard line facts when dealing with stocking, theres always a grey area where any combo can or cannot work

As I learned with my Cteno, who is not supposed to be aggressive to fish it can't eat. :\

Just happy to read about someone who made it work. I know they're all different individuals.

I think you can make pretty much any of your stocking ideas work. Just knowing that you may have to be innovative when it comes to feeding is a huge advantage. I am just lazy and don't want to worry with it long term.

Went to Wet Spot today to look around for a couple hours. So many cute small fish I want to take home!

Man, I love the look of those gold saum..... but they seemed more preoccupied with their tank mates. Severum of all sizes were more just sort of like hello hello hello hello :)

Of course these are fish in tanks with many other fish so that may not reflect what they'd be like at home.

No, the only real thing I should get now is a baby polleni or hets since they'll be in this smaller tank for a solid year.

I would worry about others outgrowing the tank too quickly. (Right?)

I saw these Spot faced pikes - lenticulata. They were beautiful! I have to read up on them. Are they huge/aggro (probably)? I sort of fell for them.

Of course the lenticulata pikes in particular can be sort of nasty. I knew there had to be a catch. ;)
