  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
How big is your tank? With a fire eel coming, I assume very large, or at least an upgrade planned?

With the sen I vote Del or Teug. Or both if you have room.

You won't likely see the Buettekoferi much from what people talk about on here.
My LFS is Wet Spot, and they were hiding even in the display tank. I haven't seen the Del yet.

The Palmas Palmas are also attractive. I had a WC one from there though that was a bully.

Also, side note - if you get rope fish, get 3+ - they do better in small groups and like each others company. They are awesome fish, super cute and active. Mine snuggle with the other 2 polys I have.

My current tank is a 55 gallon I know it's small but it has 2 filters rated for 70 gallon tanks. I do plan on atleast a 200 gallon tank in a few months when I get my new place.

As far as ropefish the last time I had them I had 2 so I was planning on more than one because they really are great.

Right now I think its narrowed down to the teugelsi, the Koliba or the delhezi. I may get 2 though. The strongest are the delhezi and the teugelsi because from the pictures posted earlier I like the Koliba's pattern when they are young but don't like how it changes when older

Ok - all lengths below are totally eyeballed!

I saw one Del About 5-6 inches. Lots of markings.

The CB Palmas were both swimming around. Smaller, maybe 2-3"

The Buettikoferi was out front and center actually. But unless it was an illusion it was missing a pec fin. Only saw one. 3ish inches

Wild Palmas closer to 5-6". But the Senegal with it had a ripped tail. And mine was a jerk. Maybe this batch came from jerk stock. ;)

Teug x 2 I think. They were hiding a little. Maybe 2-3".

Koliba only 1, maybe 3" and light colored.

Ornates tiny like 2", I think there were 2.

Endlii x2. 2-3". Not swimming but visible. Wish I had room for LJs now! Such a fan of the markings.

I've considered a fire eel in my poly tank, but my concern is that they grow slow and are not aggressive eaters, especially when small. So it would be hard to feed them, making them even slower growers, making them little more than a pretty noodle for your polys as they outgrow the fire eel. Also, as mentioned above, they can get huge!

As for poly pick, I vote KOLIBA! I got one from wetspot last week and I love the way it looks, regardless of whether it's a legit koliba or not.IMG_1384.JPG
when I got him I thought the coloring would darken up a lot, but he's still really light colored, even on the black substrate, which happens to be the black diamond blasting sand.

My petsmart bought sengalus is what made me love fish. I had a 55 gallon, with breeding bristlenose plecos and platys, that was forced on me by a friend who was being evicted. After a couple days one of my foster pitbulls started to climb onto his crate to watch the fish, then one of my pitbulls started sitting in front of the tank and watch them so I started to watch them and found it relaxing. SoI told my friend if I was going to "hold" the tank she would have to get me some fish I actually like so we went to petsmart and bought some mollies, a peacock eel, a Black ghost knife, and a tiny 1" sengalus. Well the Black ghost knife died a day later (I still had no clue about biological filtration). The peacock eel hid, and the bichir ate. Well by the time the bristlenose spawned 2 weeks later the bichir was 3" and 40 platys were gone lol. Since I was planning on selling the babies I bought the bichir his own tank which he was killed in the day I moved him to it because of a stupid purchase I made for the tank in a 13" giant river prawn stupid stupid stupid. Well the prawn was given away immediately I was pissed. But I had also bought an albino sengalus that day and kept him till I got out of the hobby. Oh and within 3 months of having the tank forced on me I had 9 tanks lol

I've had 2 peacock eels and a tire track eel the peacocks got about 7" and the tire track got about 12" before I was forced to get out of the hobby but I was working with getting him to be hand fed but a fire eel is my favorite eel. I even removed the gravel from my tank and put black diamond in it for the future eel.
That awesome... your pittbulls just watching the fish...snap a pic next time they do it

My wc palmas palmas was from WS too. Another jerk

For now I'm happy with my mix. :)

Might add some grow out cichlids and will save the bioload for that for now.

How long does it take a LJ to go from 3" to over 12? Should I wait until I have a large tank to get one?
3 to 12 is when they grow fastest (atleast for me) kind of slow down a bit after that.

Can't decide if I should wait or get a baby LJ before the upgrade.

Also, that's pretty much exactly what the other koliba looked like for reference!
