  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Btw ive used giant danios for cycling they are pretty tough fish almost impossible to kill lol once done just give back to the lfs or let benny eat em lol

Of course if it were me i would treat them with paraste gaurd

You can get a jump on setting up the main tank if you want. Its a 55 gal right ? Post some pics of what you have as far as filtrarion. The filter and what your puttong in it.

After its all sorted out you can set it up again and pick up some smaller fish to use as an ammonia source and get the filter re cycled. Also can speed it up by adding tetra safe start that way when benny is all healed up the main tank is ready for him and any new polys you get
Yep it's a 55gal. Will post pics of everything for the tank, either today or tomorrow. Along with a pic of his wound. I think he is getting depressed being in QT. Maybe will get a silk plant for him or something.also will try a worm like Polyaddict86 Polyaddict86 suggested. Today is my long day at school. I like the idea of a giant diano. My phone autocorrected that to Diane. lol I'll name it that.

Hahaha yeah after you put the tank back together you can get a few "dianes" to produce ammonia the bacterial will colonize the media in your filter and convert the ammonia to nitrite, nitrite gets converted to nitrates (less toxic to fish) the safe start will speed that up. Cycling from scratch can take months. The safe start will help get it done in a week or so.

here is the filter I have. It's a penguin HOB. will put new cartridges in it. The grates were thrown away a while ago. I'm thinking about maybe putting a sponge filter in the tank as well. What do you think?

I have to order stuff on amazon and buy all new things for the QT anyway. Some guy let me borrow his, but *insert me complaining about dating being stupid* ....so I want to give him his stuff back. At least it is a good excuse to buy new fish stuff.

on the list so far is:
-10 gal heater QT
-sponge filter QT
-lid QT
- 55 gal heater(the other one broke)

anything else?

Bleached tank, filters, and lids out. IMG_2489.JPG

Want to keep sand, driftwood, and biowheels. Will rinsing these with water be adequate?

Sponges are great get one rated for a 125 gal. Its larger and will hold more beneficial bacteria.

Never had a penguin but the bio wheels are used to house the beneficial bacteria. So its up to you. If you have some $$$ to burn look at aquaclear 110's they are.my absolute favirote hob. Holds allot of media and foam pads.

Add some tetra safestart to the list infact get two of the larger bottles. I think its like 10 or 12 bucks i dont remember.

Remember your gonna be starting the system like brand new so their wont be any bb to convert the ammonia. When all set up go pick up some Dianes.

Get an api master test kit too. Probably the most important tool in your arsenal. You'll need it during the cycling process and test once a week while your fish are growing to see if your changing enough water. Also its the first thing i do when a fish gets sick, dies or whatever...when in doubt twst the water lol

Plus when ever we post about a sick fish the 1st question asked is "what are your water parameters" lol now you can answer them

wound update: he has had body slime the past week and hasn't really been eating.
the wound on his back definitely isn't as red. still deep. That one looks like it might be getting better.
Wound on his stomach: still deep and wide, but doesn't look as deep.

Today he was pretty active. had fun hiding and scooting around.
