pacu mom pacu mom I swear you are the queen of finding relevant links and inserting them in folks threads. You always find stuff that I was not aware of or forgot over the years and then spend hours reading them because you posted them.

I have seen a lot of people share cost, but it is hard to tell sometimes because people go in so many directions. I am planning around a 10x4 and I can tell you that fishtankdirect sells an acrylic tank of that size for about $5K. Then cost of stand from them is another $2K but you can get cheaper. Plus there is filtration which I am looking at something like Ultima (about $2K if I want redundancy) or hmf ($500 - experimenting on 180g right now). If you start doing backgrounds, gravel, lights, etc everything adds up especially with large tanks. If you DIY then it can become much cheaper.

My current strategy right now is:
- Go FRP for durability, lighter weight, and personally I prefer only 1 viewing window to clean on such a large tank
- Use a local steelworker to build a stand (there is a member on this site that does excellent work)
- Using HMF style filter where I place the filter in 4 corners plus central half circle (not visible because of FRP) that will allow for consistent filtration through out and will be low cost to run/maintain
- Wife and I are house hunting with the intention of doing lots of remodeling, so the plan is to do the tank in the basement where I can put a drain for easier maintenance but also use the room to help heat the tank. Might got for in-wall style where hte tank sits in adjoining room.
$5000???
In 2009 I got a quote from them for a 10' x4' x4' tank..With discounted shipping, $14,600. It was for a Tenecor tank. The SunCoast tanks were a little less. The 15' x 4' x 4' was $28,000+ eight years ago.

I don't think he's coming back to this thread cause too many "flame" replies LOL
Also, nobody gonna believe him since it's "internet".
If I told you that I owned a Ferrari 2016 paid off by cash, do you believe me? Probably NOT LOL
I have no issue in term of money to hire a professionals to built 10000 gallons saltwater tank but I don't want to do that for some other reasons. I'm probably sure that no one gonna give a damn what I'm saying cause it's internet :P ...Seriously, I do own a Ferrari! ;)
I need to see pictures

The tank is 10x4(w)x 2(h) is $4,400 and 10x4(w)x30in(h) is $5,300 per their website. I believe it is 1in acrylic on walls and 3/4in acrylic on top/bottom. Drilling, bullk heads, stand, etc are extra. if you just to 4ft in height I see the price skyrocketing due to the thickness of the acrylic required.

I am researching FRP for this reason because I want to do more than 30in potentially.

When you get ready to start purchasing equipment, check Marine Depot and Bulk Reef Supply. Between these two vendors I have gotten filters/pumps, heaters, etc. I've noticed Amazon carries a tremendous array of stuff. I have purchased replacement UV sterilizer bulbs and ballasts from Amazon. I don't really like how poorly the stuff is packed, as opposed to the stuff from a supplier who only deals with fish tank stuff.

But you're not going to start a thread on it until you are closer to actually making it a reality, are you?
No I will not make a thread until I actually have the tank purchased lol. When I'm old enough, have a stable job I will make a huge effort to own the dream tank
Same with my new planned living room tank. Just making some final adjustments (of course this one will be much more realistic for the time being)

You guys are right about the saltwater guys being light years ahead...

In the past saw a thread somewhere where a S/W got into planted tanks, and literally EVERYTHING was automated down to each of his ferts being dosed into the tank...

Wish i could find those pics again, coz his setup was friggin amazing... not huge, but seriously high-tech beyond belief even running i think an apex controller..,
