Do you do any preventative treatments to your fish?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Id rather watch for illness than treat something that may not exist. Not trying to create a resistant form of parasite, bacteria or virus in my tanks.
I'm simply going to do the salt thing to flush anything out, bichirs are known for IP so I don't want to take chances when I get one

that's fine for a preventative quarantine, just don't nuke the tank unless theres something visibly wrong.

I was going to do a second round of prazipro but after reading more and the responses here maybe I am being a little overly cautious.

So I think I will let this first dose run the week and doing a big water change and leave it alone unless I see something change.

I was more of the feeling like once you are able to see the negative effects of a internal parasite that its generally to late. The fish would likely stop eating and be weakened so the chance of beating it is slim.

Taking preventative measures has its drawbacks sure but could also prevent a lot of issues down the road.

Good and bad with treatment. Decide which has the best outcomes. But gotta echo what predatokeeper and dan518 has mentioned....this is key.

I don't use any preventative meds. In the past I used salt and I think for a while either Melafix or Pimafix (not with the salt) - can't remember which. I never saw any changes when I stopped using them. Frequent water changes is the best thing to use IMO, I've certainly seen a big difference with that.

I always use salt in my tank (1 tsp per 5 gallons).
From time to time I mixed NLS Hex shield, Ick Shield pellets and feed my live stock. I do not use other type medicine in main tank cause I don't want to mess up my BB cycle.
