From a locked Sales thread: https://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/...onch-catfish-400-louisville-ky-pickup.683938/

Probably the fish is sold already, which is for the better but still doesn't matter. I aim to learn from goonch experts.

Oddball Oddball Phil, I am sorry, I know now that I erred - I should not have asked such questions in the Sales forum. I knew you rightfully disliked this because it is against the rules and regulations, I guess. I apologize.

T tbrown7552 said: 3.5 year old bagarius Yarelli goonch catfish. Rare fish and even rarer at this size. He's 24 inches long from head to tail not counting it's really long streamers. He was raised from 6 inches. Currently feeding him market fresh tilapia. Fish is approaching to big to stay in the tank. The biggest worry is he is able to bust the tank he is in. He was raised with predator tank mates so he should be fine with other fish in the tank. I would like it to go to a hi.e that is able to house him for the remainder of his life. I'm not particularly interested in shipping because it's very difficult to ship a fish of this size let alone one this sensitive.

I asked: Aw3s0m3 Aw3s0m3 @Chicxulub @fugupuff @justarn @headbanger_jib @Goban @shookONES @hooliganATV @arapaimag

What's your take, guys, if any?

IDK if I ave missed any big goonch experts, so please alert me if I have...

How sensitive are they at this size?

How do they transport?

I know there were alot of fish sp that when they first hit the market with any gusto alot of people lost them. Little knowledge was known about them and everyone wingged it. Now I feel with current knowladge and so many around it is t as big of am issue. Most of the people that loose them now is due directly to their own errors.

So sensitive yes, randomly gonna die on you without reason, I feel not.

Mine was 12", I sold it recently as it started getting agressive with a cat 2-3x its size both in mass and length. So I can't say first hand on larger then that.

Anyone else with a grounded opinion?

My first ever goonch thread BTW :D

I can't help but notice how quick people are to throw around the term "mystery deaths". This is just moronic. There are no such thing as mystery deaths, just those fish keepers in denial. We keep water, not fish, as they pretty much keep themselves. I'll keep my rant short, but use it as a segway into this post.

Goonch, by nature, are incredibly dependent on cooler, well-oxygenated water. I don't think you'll have any issues transporting a beast like the one offered for sale provided you take the necessary precautions for the ride. A large, dark water basin to transport is standard. Keep the water turbulent and keep the fish calm and it's smooth sailing. If possible, maybe a mid trip water change? I know several catfish species that secrete a toxin under stress that could foul a small body of water rapidly. Maybe some activated carbon secured in a mesh bag would combat this phenomenon.

I'll never forget a video I saw a few months ago of a monster GATF being transported in the bed of a pickup truck lined with a tarp. Where there's a will, there's a way!

I had the thread closed because I decided to not sell the fish on here due to people going Into the thread where I was selling the fish and making posts that would make people shy away from buying it.

That person fits the last part of his name. "Boy" that child seems to be filled with negativity and trys to spread it to everything be can. He started it in the cichla section but they shut him down instantly so he is finding other section to run a tab in. Dont mind him. The people that actually won't waste your time on here know what those keyboard warriors are about and overlook them.

People "shy away" from what could (and should) be a lifetime commitment? They got educated and did the responsible thing and DIDN'T buy a huge long lived fish they can't care for long term. I applaud all of them where ever they are. With something like a Goonch I'd want to make 100% sure that the people interested actually want it. If you can be talked out of a commitment like that -it wasn't for you anyways.

Thank you, all.

I assume you are saying that goonch isn't one of them. Might you name which ones? A reference or references would be nice. If you don't have a reference handy, I'll look into it.

That's how I do it except the rubber liner mini-pond is inside my minivan in a more or less controlled ambient.

That statement by T tbrown7552 likely includes me too. Although this is an open forum and everyone can express their opinion freely, as long as it complies with T&C, I guess I better apologize again. Please, forgive me.

Honestly your question was more innocent. Aside from the free part. That type of thing should be more of a pm type convo. Generally saying your interested but reluctant because of what you have heard/seen in the past is not to far out there. As the op answered you correctly.

Since it isn't available anymore and seems like he isnt going to try to sell it here ill say what I was thinking. I first saw the pics and thought if the nose was permanently pushed up or not. Also what happened to the peck fins. They seemed to be bent at 90° angles. As that was a negitive to his sale so I didnt say anything about them. If I was interested I would have pm those questions. Since it bothered me, but others might not notice or even care. If the op wants he can answer this, even though it seems pointless at this point.

That is my take, you may have missed the other posts by the boy.

Hey, bro! Thanks. I much appreciate your input and constructive critique, and your consideration for others, the department that I lag behind in :)

I thought $400 is like a symbolic price tag for a sharp-looking 2' goonch. Closer to free than not anyway. I may be off, of course too.

Yes, I noted that the pectoral trailers were turned up, one perhaps by the glass wall, the other IDK. It didn't bother me, neither the nose which appeared normal to me, being a non-goonch guy. I'd still trust the opinion of yours and others who actually kept goonches.

I didn't want to say anything negative about Skyeboy because I haven't experienced it, like you said I didn't see his other interactions. He does me a huge favor by ignoring and humbling me :D and that's quite welcome and fine. So I rub some people wrong, big news , huh?...

It was nothing to do with that at all. Someone was going on about how they randomly die for no reason and kept pushing the issue. Im pre screening buyers myself once it gets to that stage.

No it doesnt

Its actually just 1 side. I dont know how it happened as it is something he did himself very early in his life. It hasnt affected him though. The other side isnt bent.

Ah. Might have crashed, broke it and that is how it healed.

As to its nose it could have jist been pushed on the glass. I didn't look to closely as I was there for the opinion asked.

thebiggerthebetter thebiggerthebetter if your still interested in it I would pm T tbrown7552 I am sure he will see you are capable of keeping it. Just habe to figure out a price you can agree on. I know I sold my 12" for $350 and I saw a 7" at $300 not that long ago. Imo $400 is a good price. Keeps the people that can't afford to house it away yet the people that can is it still in range. I have seen them go for $650 for large ones before.
