Ideas on stocking a 125 with my first Bichir

Alright well thank you for the heads up. That's too bad because the endli was starting to grow on me but I definitely want to try a senegal (at least 1) for the activity. And the dels are so nice looking that I'll need one of those. I'm still at a loss for what i want to do for a 3rd (and potential 4th) but those marbled are looking pretty nice as well.

Thank you for the suggestion magpie magpie . I checked out your thread and that Moke is stunning! I really like the greens on him/her.

When I'm typing on my phone, it's easier to say saddled or marbled than spell out endlehoweveryouspellit. but on the pc it's no problem. So i'll probably switch back and forth.

Really what I want is the majority of the 3 or 4 bichirs to be pretty active. So that's why i'm leaning towards senegals/albinos. I know i want a del because they look awesome but really I'm going for activity outside of the del. So maybe senegal/albino, del, and polli/marbled to start out with?

Ugg on a completely unrelated note, I thought I had tracked down a source for heterospilas. I have a pretty good relationship with trinsfish.com and they said they were on their "available fish list" so they were going to order some in. Well apparently their "source" didn't have them and just put some other random cichlids in there to make up for it. Oh well. Here's hoping on wetspot or me coralling enough folks locally for a cota order.

Lol the only problem with your stocking plan is what do you do when the addiction hits ?! Many of us can attest to this. What starts out as a couple of upper jaws turns into a full blow lower jaw crack addiction a few turns into 5 then 7 then 10 lol

As for the hets im pretty sure all sources will lead back to COTA even wetspot as dan is the only one who has them and continually breeding them only issue with him is he has a 100$ min order @10 bucks a pop you'll have to take 10 of them

Haha and your addictions to these creatures have been on full display! I am indeed worried that once I get a few I'll have to have more and more. I can already see the charm in them through your videos and other's. But I gotta stay focused. I started this tank idea so that I could house a BP and atleast a single het. But I'll definitely put as many polys as i can comfortably :)

So from you guy's experiences, you'd say the senegal is pretty active, the polli also pretty active, and the del not so active but it's got ze prettyz

Most opinions will vary. My del r.i.p was active most are. My moke was a turd never moved always hid ornate and koloton lap are the most active polys for me. But wont be the same for everyone.

my 1st ornate always hid but the 4 sengalus(2x albino & 2x reg) I've had have all been very active. My palmas polli was also very active and all 5 rope fish have also been super active. I know you haven't really considered ropefish but if you get a couple you will love them

I like ropefish I just want this to be primarily a cichlid tank. So if I did a rope fish or two I'd have to take away from the polys or cichlids and i like them better than I do the ropefish.

For now though I think I'm pretty settled on at least 1 senegal, 1 del, and 1 polli (though I haven't seen as many of these available). If I get a 4th I'll probably do an albino senegal.

Good luck, keep on top of waterchanges with all these fish the happen to like eating a load ;)

These guys are getting me into polys as well but they are just so damn hard to find in my neck of the woods. I may get a different African fish instead of polys, I'm leavimg these guys guessing :p

Don't tell everyone the final list, you have to make a 'guess what's in the bag/box' thread with atrocious pictures so everyone can take a guess at what you got :)
