My husband and I don't treat the yard with insecticides, but do spray the foundation. I'd just have to be sure to collect them off in the woods or one of the fields if I get grave enough to try feeding them to the fish. Lol

Any risk of parasites? I think I heard you have to empty the guts of wild caught worms or starve them before feeding them or risk passing parasites on to your fish. Is there truth to this?

You can buy worms from a baitshop just rinse the dirt off and feed to the fish. Never lost a fish that ate earthworms.

BUAHAHAHA! Threw a bunch in, was a feeding frenzy. Even the guppies were fighting over one I chopped up until one of my corries found it hahaha.

Oh and also crane flies get swatted down on sight and thrown to their doom.

From all I have read, earthworms carry no form of any parasite that is a threat to fish as they are terrestrial and non aquatic.
I rinse mine thoroughly then use a serrated scissors to cut them in halves quarters and eigths; then while still in the water in the bathroom sink ( any bowl will work just fine) I pick the pieces up one by one with a lizard feeding tongs and thrash them about to get the gunk out of their digestive tract... very little remains inside them before feeding the fish (and one panther crab) that absolutely love the morsels.

Earthworms actually can carry callamanus.I learned the hard way. Bait shop bought crawlers gave my old Oscar this. I had to buy goat wormer to get rid of it. I have fed crickets with a vitamin - carotenoid paste injected in their bum to beef up sickly fish, and it works quite well. It's also a perfect way to deliver meds. Plus, the buggers sink after I inject them!

So are you telling us that your crickets are anal retentive? I think that's really neat!

I had to figure out something to deliver meds and vitamins to picky fish! Would you hate me if I told you I did it while they were alive? So when I put them in the tank they will wiggle enticingly so the fish will eat them quickly. It works even on my 75 dollar chocolate oranda, who is so picky sometimes I think she thinks she's a supermodel trying to slim down for a show!

Just tossed another huge crane fly in the tank. One of the small giant danios grabbed it but then the biggest one stole it. Almost swallowed the whole thing, only the tips if the legs were sticking out haha.
