Hello I'm new to this site but been having Jack Dempseys for years now, just never interested in keeping more than one fish at a time until now and I want to see if you guys can help me identify the sex of my new Jack?20170321_230543.jpg

let's see if you guys can help me with this little guy, I thought it was female so I bought the one in the picture I posted yesterday. When I introduced my male to my supposed female, the female when after him as soon as I put him in tank, she swam around the male, rubbed her self on him and then all of a sudden they locked lips for awhile. After that the female gave up and swam away. Now my female stays mostly under her rock but the male will go bother her in her rock and chases her around the tank for a little while, she seems stressed and breaths a little heavier now, What to do? Here is a picture

the "lip locking" mating ritual can be done by two males as well as two females when establishing dominance over territory.

Second picture looks like a male to me also... Not much blue on or under the gills.
