So I will be moving my monster 28-29 inch albino arow to a new tank. a 40 breeder to be exact!
kidding kidding a 370 gallon. it is currently in my 220 and i finally got a chance to get the bigger tank set up.

Now how do we catch this monster with little to no damage and little to no stress? The move will happen in about 2 weeks, so i want to plan this now and soak in as much advice as i can.

thank you!

When I move big fish I usually just use a very big net (carp fishing net). Depending on the width of your tank this might not be possible..Many people use a clean cotton pillow case, maybe that would work. Or, considering the elongated shape of an aro, one of those sleeve-nets they use for Koi.

So pretty much just go in and scoop him up? any worries about him jumping? draining the tank?
my plan was to drain probably half way and then go in and pretty much just like you describe scoop him up with a fishing net . I'm just worried about it jumping out.

I've done this before by draining to tank low and then putting a towel over him and grabbling him.

Didn't want him trashing about in a net and able to hurt himself.

Worked fine for me

I'd drain the tank right before his back is sticking out net him out and just put another me tover it if you have one or atleast cover it with your hand and put him in whatever conatainer you're going to to acclimate or move him to the tank

I haven't done it myself but heard from many who experienced damage to the fins/scale/tail while catching with net or hand directly.

What is suggested to try and move it into a XL size polythene carry bag directly, you may need help from someone to direct the fish by using a net to move it towards bag. Of course reducing the water level in the tank before this will be helpful too.

You can keep this bag in the TO-BE tank and slowly release within the new tank, by having less stress and damages to the fish.

if its tame and calm you can grab it with towel ... but if not try to sedate it first , no need to knock it down just to calm it down
and dont use a net ....

Suggest you do not use a net or a towel unless no other choice and the Aro is of a valued possession. A large fish bag and Transmore or Clove oil to semi sedate the fish making it calm and safe for both you and the fish. Drop the water to a level just above the fish, remove the air stone and then dose the sedative. Wait a little while for the sedative to take effect. Then slowly and gently coax the fish into the bag. Another pair of hands to help out will certainly make the move easier. When in doubt about the amount of sedative to add, err on the side of caution, after all you can always add more if needed rather than overdose. Good luck.

so the thing is that the big arow is in with some roseline sharks and 2 rays and another smaller albino arrow (about 15inchs). I have already decided to drain the tank to a lvl that enough for him to just swim. The next part is actually bringing him out of the tank and into the moving container. I am also feeling the idea of using the large fish bag too but im not too sure how i will be able to move him into it or even get the bags.

I just moved my 21" super red and we put a big clear shipping bag in the tank and opened it so he could swim in it and then we closed the bag underwater and it worked without any damage
