what's in the QT?

called the FL Silica Sand websites, they don't have 36 or 16 garnet. But they had blasting garnet 8/12 grit(I think this might be a little big) 50# for $14. Then 30/40 Filtering garnet for $22.91/ 50#. However shipping is also $30 if I get one bag. It's the blasting garnet right?

If this doesn't work out I'm just gonna get the pool sand. They only have the tan silica sand in my area. Or Quikrete PFS at the hardware store.

Barton ks blasting media. It may be larger grit but if i remember the larger you go the less red it looks. More purplish

i'll consider it. I do like the purple. Vancouver_98683 Vancouver_98683 's tank is the bomb with that purple sand!

-Do you think if I go with regular Pool filter sand, that would bust up an aquaclear 110? Probably gonna order one today cause my dad complains that the penguin 350 is "too loud." lol. and I have a sponge filter running in the QT with my flame shrimp right now. It's quite the crowd pleaser.

waiting for a price on the giant danios.

Nah it would be fine. I had an ac110 on pfs for a while. Infact i extended the intakes on the one down to about and inch off the substrate in the 40b and the faranah lap kicked up some sand. The impellar jamed but was fine after i cleaned it out.

Just keep the one length of pipe on the intake and you'll be okee dokee

Pfs don't move like regular sand. Won't get kicked up easily as sand. Less likely to clog up the ac110.

Okay. I know i've been on hiatus for a while getting my tanks disinfected and resealed in addition to the daily grind......and I get distracted really easily.....but
I think everything is back to "normal"
-my betta is feeling better
-put PFS in the 55gal freshwater.
- saltwater tank set back up to free up the 10gal QT, all tanks res).
-10 gal QT is ready for fish!

Decided to go with PFS and Aquaclear 110. Just have to fill the tank with water. I was planning on ordering either some giant danios or guppies. and some anubias probably. Then if those last a week, then order polys. :)

Awesome ! Glad your getting back in the ring.

Wait longer than a week though. Let the danios be your ammonia supply to cycle the tank. Once your getting 0 ammonia/nitrite amd reading some nitrates your good to go.

Yay! I still need to build my disco lights+ light stand, but I'm slowly getting it together.
Thanks for letting me know to wait longer than a week, I'm not good at the cycling.
I also have safestart and then seed bacteria by AquaVitro. Not sure if that would help.
I can't wait to get get some polys again! Then I can bomb the site with pics and puns.

I hope so too. :)

Here's the site for seed. It is a relatively new SeaChem brand. The salt water LFS that is letting me special order, sells it. It is what they use for all of their reef tanks and to cycle new tanks. Although it can be used for fresh and/or salt water. The Owner of the LFS kindly gave me some plant Aquavitro bottles too. http://www.aquavitro.com/products/plant.html so I'll have to get some plants and try it out.

magpie magpie , have you ever used Aquavitro or similar for your plants?
