Did you add it directly to the tank?
How cloudy was it?

No. I took out my crayfish and turned off all equipment. Prewashed the sand in a 5gallon bucket till it was pretty much gone and clear. The tank got a little cloudy because I introduced the sand in with water already. It cleared up by this morning and looks great. My crayfish loves it. Saw him digging in it this Am

Awesome guys! I'm gonna run a pump through floss and stir it, severe water shortages here

here's a better picture of the tank...
What's the eggcrate for? a moss wall?
About the 50lb for <$15, I used playsand in my tank. I am happy with it. I paid $4.50 for 50lb.

Careful! if you get even a little sand in that pump, you'll destroy at very least the impeller, but possibly the entire pump.

it was the divider I used before he killed his female. figured I'd just leave it in the tank. and I tried play sand, never fully rinsed clean and was constantly stirring up and ruining my filters (I only used sponges / HMFs now) but it was nothing but a PITA for me.. too fine lol

and not going to lie, using the egg crate for a moss wall is a great idea! I may look in to that in the future

It's a normal pond pump, should be alright? If not I'll suction cup the thing

No. Unless it is a peristaltic pump, which I think is only used in hospitals for pumping blood, it has moving parts (probably impeller and motor shaft) that the sand will scratch until it's useless. Maybe if you wrapped the intake with an old t-shirt it would help.
