Should I feed Senegal Bichirs bloodworms?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Sens are probably one of the slower growing polys. They shoot up pretty quick from when they are little wormlets until the hit the 5-8 mark usually around 6 months and then start to slow down. It all depends on who has them, how much food they get, environment. Its that way with them all, I saw two delz yesterday at lfs and he said supplier guessed them at around a year old they were 6 inches. I have 2 delz and one is about a year the other is around 7 months and the year old is 10" the 7 month is 8-9". I'm totally guessing at age that's how long ive had them and they both still had external gills when I got them so they were young.

Oh ok thanks for the info. Didn't realise Senegals were one of the slowest growing species of bichir. Bichir are quite rare in Australia even just a senegal costs $300 - 450$ its nuts. If your lucky you can find Ornates from time to time but they are quite rare.

No one ships?

I'm not aware of anyone who ships bichirs from America or overseas to Australia. If you know of any online sellers that ship worldwide that would be cool.

GST sales taxes and many strict guidelines that makes it difficult to import goods/pets to Australia.

Here's an example. Slayer2533 Slayer2533 . How much aus. dollars was it for 1 Senegal? Now wait to hear this guys/gals :)

Note: 1 AU dollar is 0.74 USD

As I said earlier stupidly expensive in Australia. My pair cost $900 Australian Dollars with $50 dollar store credit. So I'm in no rush to put them in any risky situations as you can probably imagine. But I have a love for exotic and strange fish so here I am.

From what I've seen the best place to get them is here. They aren't cheap, but at least you have a bit of selection.

Yep Gumtree is the way to go here very expensive though. I have a fish supplier I normally use who might have been able to get smaller senegals in for $300 AU each but seeing as my lfs had them for $900 for a sexed pair at a much larger size thought hey ok that makes things easier I will just grab them.

I missed this post of yours. So $950 au is $712.50 U.S. That's up there. Amazing how different it is here.
