Yes, yes, and no. I've always had a RTS in my tanks when I have them running. I had one in my last tank that grew from 1.5" to 6" living in a tank full of catfish, ATF, payaras, arowanas and the like. No one ever touched it. This guy only has to deal with a fat, happy and well fed catfish and aro. Lol he's got nothing to worry about. :)

Lol hmm wonder if I can keep a rainbow shark with my big guys.. highly unlikely lol

Rainbow sharks are what started me off in the hobby I've always like them and always had one with my fish while they were growing. I'd bring them to the lfs eventually in fear of them being a meal. They'd grow pretty quickly for me but as you know don't grow very big

Depends on how big your big guys are. After a certain point, the bigger predators won't even bother with trying to pursue a very small fish. FWIW, I have a rainbow in this tank as well, but it's a lot more shy than the RTS. The RTS is very dominant. RTS have the same meaning for me as rainbows have for you, which is why I keep them. :)

Sharp eyes!

Yep! I know what fish are in there and I had trouble seeing the RTS lol
