100 Gallon stocking ideas?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Cheating?

Those Thorichthys helleri look so good, are they the same as the fish in your profile pic? Unfortunately my Lfs only really gets in fire mouths and maculipinnis (which they label ellioti) and i think id rather go with the maculipinnis because im told they stay smaller and are prettier IMO.

Would 10 be a species only tank then? i saw a sweet youtube vid of them with some other centrals and a swordtail... kinda fancy being unoriginal and copying them...

Its a 125 gallon so i obviously wont stock the same.

That's a nice tank.
The heterospilus would be a good choice of companion for thorichthys.
They do best in groups too. Theyare very slow growing and a beautiful fish.
I feel you would need to have a few to dilute any aggression,so not just one individual is a target.
Other cichlids you could consider are
Rheoheros lentinginosus

A riverine species that also does well in small groups and work well with thoricthys.
Swordtails are also great tankmates for non predatory c/a cichlids.
It's worth hunting down some wild types instead of the weak line bred rubbish most fish shops sell.
Xiphophorus montezumea are stunning if you can find some.
I currently have some Rio Otapa xiphophorus helleri

The swordtails become more interesting than I gave them credit for.
Great for bringing shy cichlids out of their shell and very easy to reproduce.

I've been patiently waiting for a group of thorichthys helleri for my 100 gallon. They have proved difficult to come by though. Jeff Rapps recently had a whole 2 available. I might end up getting aureus or maculipinnis if they don't pop up here sooner or later.

I'm pretty excited to keep them though

Aureaus won't let you down.
I think they are one of the most attractive when fully grown.
I think I would go for them.
Stunning fish in the right setting.

Stanzzz7, sorry I had to leave right away. Cheating in the cense I can`t win someone to my side without equally awesome pictures. Your tanks are an inspiration.

These are not mine, but wow. Credit to Jocke Bergengård on facebook.

I'm still not sure one the gold, blue, and red variants of aureus I've seen for sale
