What would be the maximum tank length you could safely go for if it was built from acrylic?
I've seen 8ft or 96 inches thrown around but is there any reason for this or could I go bigger?

Basically any length. My lfs has a 10' X 5' acrylic tank. And one of the workers there has a 12' X 6' 2200 gallon acrylic tank

It's really driven by cost. Acrylic comes in 8x4 sheets and it becomes more expensive to go beyond those sheet sizes. Also, obviously the deeper the tank the thicker you have to go which very quickly increases cost.

Okay thanks. Just didn't want to start planning and find out it was too big after investing in the project.

I've seen acrylic blocks which are 50mm thick but I'm not sure they are cell cast. They weren't as cheap as I had hoped :(

8x4 is standard. Polycast comes in oversized sheets but costly. Or you could master the butt-joint and save loads of $

Just a thought on price. Here acrylic sheets at half inch are- 1/2" 8 X 4'- $360, 8' X 5' was like $500 something, and 120" X 80" 1/2" was $990 per sheet
