330 gallon setup and sump build

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Alright so maybe some pictures will lighten the mood around here! Sorry I'm still an amateur at taking moving shots of the little guys. They always move at the last second. I love these meeki. A ton of personality when they are flaring at eachother. 9 of the 10 are almost always together patrolling the tank. The 10th is the largest of the group which I snagged at petsmart while the others I got from Tropiqurium in ocean. He has claimed since the first day the cave I made in the rock work on the left of the tank and refuses to come out. I have only seen him once since I put him in the tank a few days ago. Not sure if that's normal or not since the others are always out and about. But the Buenos Aires tetras are all over the place and pretty cool. They started off schooling and then have not resorted to just swimming on their own

Also not sure if you guys can see but one of the meek is has black eyes instead of the blue? Is that normal?

I really love the rock/wood work...yeah i said it...wood work hahaha

Must feel good to have some fish in the tank.

Yea you gotta love when someone can work the wood! Lol
Looks great and really like fish in that huge tank super cool! Can't wait to see more.
Question for you. Why did you choose the fish you listed? I think they'll all look great don't get me wrong. I'm a little worried about agression but I've heard that and kinda seen the meeki are not to bad. Tetras are tetras. I don't know much about the other thoricythis you've chosen though.

I can always count on you to slip in a one liner lol.

But it took a while to come up with the stock. I had a lot of help from another very expiernced member in the CA cichlids section and was first leaning to a harem of green terrors but decided to try and do something completely different. We came up with having the synspilum as the show piece and both types of thorichthys to compliment. They both live together in the wild so I was trying to go for a natural biotope type of feel. It's hard to find any tetras from that area since they arnt very common so I had to resort to the Buenos Aires and congos if I decide to get them (I really like them) to fill in some of that blank space that will be in the mid to upper level since the meeki will stay at the bottom of the tank. I am also adding some Bala sharks to the tank since I have a 7" and a 4-5" and love those things. I couldn't bring myself to give them away so this big tank was mainly for them. Wanted to grow them out to full potential if I could

Just realized I kinda rambled and never answered your question. The meeki are mostly all bark and no bite. They like to flare at eachother and that's it. If I were to get the ellioti variety then that would be a different story since they are the most aggressive out of the genus. Wanted a somewhat mild tank but with a little bit of action is what I was looking for. Didn't want something that would be a wet pet

Same thing I've heard. But the ellioti are so nice looking! So the other thoricythis you've chosen are pretty mild too?
I know they were my first choice until I learned how aggressive they were. Beautiful coloration on them. But yea they should be on the milder side. With my luck I got all the crazy ones
