Any udates Amozian fish? How's the Planiceps & Piriabe doing?
Any updated pics?

Rob

Sorry for the wicked delayed response. I've been swamped with work and life outside the hobby for the past several months with limited time to enjoy my fish. I've got 1 Planiceps left out of the 5 initial ones and it is doing well in my 240 Gallon at the moment. Growth is not as high as it could have been mostly because I haven't been power feeding but at this point is good since I have not been able to set up a pond yet at my home due to other expenses. At a little over a year the Planiceps is around the 18" mark which is considerably undersized from what my last large one was able to grow to in the same amount of time. That being said however the conditions are significantly different with the previous one hitting 30" in that time but it was growing out in a 480g from the 8" mark with an unlimited supply of feeders the entire time.

Crappy cell phone pics attached, I'll try to take some real ones this weekend.

Read the thread. Such a nice reporting job.

What happened to the three firewoods?

What happened to the lone survivor since January 2012?

Not sure why the other 3 gave up, everything was fine water quality wise and fish seemed normal then just started dropping. They were still in the growout tank when this happened and hadn't been moved to one of the larger tanks, not sure if that played a role or not.

The lone survivor was lost unfortunately when I had to overwinter my 1100g indoor pond elsewhere and it wasn't being kept properly heated by the people watching it. The Lima and TSN in the pond survived the temp drop but the Planiceps couldn't handle it, major bummer and I moved the pond back out of their watch immediately after.

Been away from the fish game except for my SAL which is at 11yrs old now for a while but would really like to get more involved in the community again. Lots of OG catfish people have been gone a while due to life unfortunately. Love your tank by the way bro! Been seeing a lot of your threads of the 4500g

Many thanks for the reply and the update! Hmmm... I thought my wretched firewood experience was an odd one out but I see some consistency with what you observed - unexplained, unexpected deaths.

I've tried twice over the last 2 years, each time with 2-4 fish, one time with ~4"-ers, the other with ~2"-ers. Same story. Start out with a bang. Eat great bloodworms and cut fish, grow great, put on a few inches, stop eating in a month or a few, start spinning, swimming out of balance, perish after some weeks. All tank mates thrive throughout all these. 240 gal tank.

Maybe Herman herman moorr herman moorr has something to worry about after all... https://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/threads/planiceps-aka-firewood-cat.690016/#post-7777685

Thank you for the compliment. I humbled that my threads caught your eye.

Well just a little update on mine. Came home today and he is acting a little out character. Slightly unbalanced swimming and just everywhere in the tank. I would hate to see this guy go out in this way but I'm not sure what I can do for him. All other fish are thriving and water a a1. Guess I'll just keep I eye on him. Has been a strong eater since getting him as well.
