I have a pair of firemouth cichlids about 3 inches long in a 55 gallon tank. I need help picking out tank mates for them. I believe I have a male and female but I'm not sure. I was wondering what would be good tankmates for my pair?

Sword tails or Tetras.

I agree with Tom, a 55 is quite small, too small for any other cichlids, so dithers like geographically correct live bearers or tetras would also be my choice.

Yep strike three here! I agree a biotope setup can be quite beautiful and a 55 would really look great with a nice scape.

I'd go with a bristlenose pleco. What other type of catfish were you thinking about? The firemouths and swordtails combination sounds ideal.

Bristle nose are cool and don't bother anybody. I've almost always kept them. Actually have a tiny 1"er in with my Haitiensis grow outs for the time being.
