Covetous Covetous . Good luck with your ornate. As others had said, it appears to be a bouyancy issue. Keep us posted with how the Epsom salt goes. Another option Would be taking a video so we can get a clearer idea of what's going on for sure.

If it is trapped air:

Would cease on the feeding for a day or two until it passes the air. Sometimes bloat can be caused by feeding a little too much. Another option for trapped Air/ bloat quoted from the beblondie FAQ thread is to feed catfish fillets on occasion as a preventative method. Members such as magpie magpie and Polyaddict86 Polyaddict86 have done this before water changes because catfish is oily. I don't believe either of them have had problems with bloat.

I had the best sucess feeding catfish once aweek, its oil help for digestion so you wont have issue with bloating, trap air is a different story tho.
Other choice to is to feed green peas which i havent had success, but tlindsey tlindsey and kno4te kno4te can give you advice on how to do this.

Would do the Epsom salt as jaws mentioned. 1 tbsp per 5g. One time and hold feeding and wait it out.

The rolling and thrashing is a bit odd hence i said post a video.

I think you and everyone else has given the best advice. Out of all the polypterus I have kept personally the Ornate was the most problematic due to bloating.

Well, woke up to a very dead Ornate this morning. Power went out yesterday around 5 and he seemed to be alright. Kept the tank airated with a battery power pump to a sponge filters.

I'm not sure where I went wrong here. Sucks, like I said I loved this little guy.
Let's hope I get power back in a day or so so I don't lose anyone else. IMG_20170911_092938392.jpg
