I'll try to be short and list all my info. I have a 40 breeder which is fully cycled. I ordered a 4.5 inch SRD FH from Thailand from a reputable breeder/seller - LakeFX. I received him 12 days ago and the past 3 days he's been acting differently. Hiding in front top corner, flashing occasionally, and his hump is smaller then before. His colors are great, he eats great. No visible spots or worms. 82 degrees, 0 ammonia 0 nitrites, PH is 6.8 and Aquaclear 110 filter with 1 40 gallon sponge filter and 2 air stones. (I have an Eheim 2215 setup but I just haven't started it yet because the Aquaclear110 is what was running during the cycle) So far I have done 3 water changes since I received him - the last one I added aquarium salt in case it's ich on site. The first 9-10 days he was very lively and active and now for the most part he stays in top front corners except when he wants to eat. I try to play with him to get him moving and I have been leaving the lights off too. Food I feed is Piscine PE Mysis tablets, NewLifeEra Spectrum for Cichlids, Fluval Bug Bites Cichlids, and CZ Aqua Red Blaze (only three times) I'm still learning and although I have other tanks, this is my first Flowerhorn. Please any help will be greatly appreciated! I just want him to be healthy and happy! I'll do anything that's needed!

Here's a picture of him - I put the lights on so I can't get picture - normally he's in the top front corner but in this picture I got him to come out as I was feeding him so he's not there in this picture

What's his poop look like? Has he been breathing heavily, or spitting out food?

Might just need some time to adjust. Did u ask what temperature they kept him at? I run right at about 85-86. Maybe too much activity around him as well

It's funny you said that - the breeder just emailed me saying it sounds like to him that he could be scared and not like the location of the tank. Would that really play such a big part in his reaction? It's in my dining room/front room. I have a small apartment and on one side of the wall in my front room is my 75 gallon and across from that about 2 feet ahead of it is the Flowerhorns tank. Really no activity it's just myself in my apartment

Also is 80 too low in your opinion? Is a higher temp better? How much would you feed a 4.5 inch Flowerhorn? I'm using the small pellets I think they're actually granules. How many granules and how often a day? I've been doing 15 a day but wasn't sure if that was too much or just right or too little

I wouldn't say 80s too low, I personally do run under 85. Maybe black out the sides and back of the tank if 84+ doesn't work. I feed 3 times a day, once it slows down I stop feeding. I also feed a mix of things, blood worms and shrimp before water change (Sunday Wednesday and Friday) I feed Grand Sumo red as main and algae waffers which mine eat but is meant for bottom feeders. Mine also eat carnivorous sinking pallets.

That's sounds good! I didn't even think of that - blacking out the sides! I'll try slowly increasing the temperature to 84 and if he's still acting like that then I'll do that with the back and sides - maybe 1/2 of the sides or 3/4 of the sides just so he could still see when I'm entering the room. So 3 water changes a week you do? How much do you do? I love doing water changes I just wasn't sure if it'd be better to do 1 a week or if I could do more. That's awesome! I'm happy I have some stuff to try! Thanks for all the info! He's an amazing fish I just want him to feel safe and enjoy his setup!
